Brainstorming – ‘using the brain to storm a problem’ –Participants spontaneously call out or write down their ideas for solutions. They should produce ideas without being placed under any restrictions and combine them with other ideas. –A group atmosphere should be created that is as productive and innovative as possible. –After a break all ideas will be read aloud (by the group leaders), then assessed and sorted by the participants. At first, this is about thematic categories and sorting unrealistic ideas out. Assessment and evaluation can either be done in the same session with the same participants or separately by other experts. Creativity techniques

Classical brainstorming –Group: 5-8, ideally 7 participants – Duration:20 - maximally 30 minutes –Target :many solutions to defined problem Overview of problem and/or solution field –Problem ideal for research and analytical problems –Solutions ideas and approaches Subsequent analysis is often time- consuming Creativity techniques

Destructive brainstorming –1. Phase: Problem –2. Phase: Mark major weaknesses –3. Phase: Brainstorming for possible improvements (one for every weakness) –PLEASE NOTE: positive thinking to find solutions Creativity techniques

Imaginary brainstorming –In principle like classical brainstorming: Problem analysis, list of criteria and various aspects of problem Brainstorming; how can the problem be converted into something absurd Selection of absurd criteria etc. and brainstorming to find solutions for them The previously found unrealistic approaches serve as a basis to find realistic solutions –Steps 3 and 4 are repeated until sufficient solutions are available. Creativity techniques

Thinking chairs – change of perspective –— The dreamer You are free to develop a vision, build castles in the air and give free reign to your imagination. There are no limits set by reason or feasibility. The more eccentric you get, the better. –— The realist In this part you solely rely on your intellect. You have taken the crazy ideas of the dreamer on board, and now you deal with them seriously. You examine them, asking yourself which are feasible and what would have to be done in order to implement them. Creativity techniques

Thinking chairs – change of perspective –The critic As a critic, you take a probing look at the results produced by the realist. You ask yourself: is this doable? Which problems do I have to expect? Do I really want this? Will it be worth the effort? Creativity techniques

Semantic intuition as developed by Helmut Schlicksupp –Semantic intuition serves to create ideas by combining words and changing the word order. It is particularly suited for the generation of product ideas. –You combine two single words from the word field created around the initial question. The resulting word may provide you with new ideas. Creativity techniques

Semantic intuition as developed by Helmut Schlicksupp Example: –We are looking for new ideas for cookware. The terms collected in the word field include: automatic, stir, pot, cool, knife, spices, eggs, pan. This might lead to the following word creations: automatic stir, egg spices, cool pan. Potential innovations are: a self-stirring pot, a special mixture of spices for fried or soft-boiled eggs, a pan with cooling function for making desserts. Creativity techniques
