Knowledge Discovery from Data-Mining (KDD): an interdisciplinary area focusing upon methodologies for extracting useful knowledge from data

But!

“The facts, events, things, concepts, models, ideas registered and stored in databases cannot be considered knowledge, since knowledge can reside only in human minds continuously growing in connection with the inner and outer worlds”

“The interpretation of the data mining results does not lead immediately to knowledge. The developed understanding needs to be tried out in organizational situations such as decision-making processes”

“Organizational actors create new ideas and mental models, reshape previous ones, redefine conceptual linkages and develop emotional responses towards ideas and models”

“Organizational actors create new experiences and relationships with the surrounding reality” KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTION: THE ROLE OF DATA MINING TOOLS Maribel Yasmina Santos & Isabel Ramos

Knowledge as collective intelligence is socially constructed from the common understandings of people and ideas

Transdisciplinarity Knowledge Discovery from Big-Data Knowledge building To reach higher and more complex levels of knowledge

"The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them” Albert Eistein

Input from various other scientific disciplines and contribution of scientists with different sets of skills are required to come up with an optimal solution.” (TRANSDISCIPLINARY SCIENCE METHODOLOGY, Orhan Güvenen)

Collaboration is more than cooperation. The action of working together with a common objective, to produce a piece of work. Transdisciplinarity: collaboration between disciplines

Building bridges between disciplines Developing of a new ground for long-term collaboration between disciplines on the topic of Big Data Science. Incubation of new knowledge. International networking. Some of the BigSkyEarth objectives

Creativity is the human mental phenomenon based on the effective use of skills and mental abilities as well as conceptual tools that originate and develop innovation, inspiration or intuition Imagination plays a vital role in the development of new theories. Karl Popper, one of the most influential philosophers of the twentieth century Creativity in sciences!!

Let’s build an efficient approach!

Social constructivism Lev Vygotsky Collaborative learning Social constructivism is a variety of cognitive constructivism that emphasizes the collaborative nature of learning. Collaborative learning refers to methodologies and environments in which learners engage in a common task where each individual depends on and is accountable to each other Learning takes place from experience and knowledge exchange and common reworking of observed events, in facilitation contexts Social constructivism also refers to an individual's learning that takes place because of their interactions in a group

Saturation Verification, the step of the creative process when the idea manifests itself into a reality. Poincaré The three stages of innovation/creativity Hermann von Helmholtz IncubationIllumination

Complex solutions Transdisciplinarity Collaboration Interactions Innovation Creativity

How we do it!?

Group of artists use to co-create. A good example of this are the artistic residences. An artistic residence is a place where artists/experts, cohabit and work together for a lapse of time, with a common objective; and where the following elements are present: A facilitating context (environment, structures, tools and resources), multidisciplinary collaboration, cohabitation of participants that facilitates interactions and contributes to “saturation” providing enough time to immerse deeply in the work, allow “incubation” during working pauses. Illumination is possible!! The participants work together with a common objective for co-creation, the “verification” stage.

Scientific residences!!!!

To do a joint work within the BigSkyEarth project feasibility, level of interest, to look for ways to implement it and to design the process, together Through a participatory process How?

Thank you for you attention
