Let’s Talk about Jacob The Prince of God 2,549

Who was Jacob? His father was Isaac and Mother Rebecca. What is the meaning of his name? Jacob (Supplanter); Israel (Prince with God) Place of birth: Canaan, Padan-Aram, Egypt Occupation:Shepherd.

References: Hosea 12:3-5, 12; Heb. 11:21; Matt. 8:11; God made three promises to Abraham when he asked him to leave the Chaldeans. These three promises were: I will make you a great nation. I will bless your seed. I will give you this land as an inheritance.

Genesis 25:21-26 Genesis 25:21-26 … 21Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived. 22But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord. 23And the Lord said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.” 24So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb. 25And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau. 26Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

Romans 9:10-13… “10And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac 11(for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), 12it was said to her, “The older shall serve the younger.” 13As it is written, “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”

Son of Isaac and Rebecca, in answer to prayer. Struggle of Jacob and Esau before birth depicted the struggle of two nations The favoritism of his parents (Isaac and Rebekah)

“23And the Lord said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.” There is nothing that we can do, God spoke and that’s the way it will be. Genesis 25:23… “23And the Lord said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.” There is nothing that we can do, God spoke and that’s the way it will be. Romans 9:10-13…

“29Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. 30And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom. 31But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.” 32And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?” 33Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Genesis 25:29-34… “29Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. Hebrews 12:16-17 Hebrews 12:16-17 … “16lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. 17For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.

Jacob bargained for Esau's birthright The birthright granted: Superior rank in the family (firstborn, cf.
