What is painting? Painting is the kind of visual art applying paint, pigment on canvas, paper, wood, walls.

Classicism is connected with or influenced by art of ancient Greece and Rome. It posses such qualities as balance,regularity and simpleness of form. Romanticism is put in the forefront individuallity.The artists followed their feelings and emotions, who preffered wild natural beauty to things made by man.

Realism showed things as they really are. Impressionism - (from Fr. Impression - impression) this styl, trying to capture the changing effect of natural light. Impressionism claimed beauty of the real world, emphasizing the freshness of first impressions, the variability of the environment.

Pointillism the pictures are made up of thousand of coloured dots. but from the distance the dots seem to merge together and form new colors. Cubism he distorted space and broke things up into angular shapes.

Expressionism Expressionists peculiar attraction to mysticism and pessimism. The artist use exaggerated shapes and colours to try to convey feelings. Abstract art It doesn’t mirror real people or things, but is an arrangement of shapes and colours.
