WHY: ●Dental problems are the primary reason children miss school. RESOURCES DID YOU KNOW…? Tooth decay can lead to serious health problems: ●Bacterial endocarditis (bacteria from the mouth can travel to the heart, causing serious complications) ●Gum disease ●Diabetes ●Malnutrition and/or weight loss ●Poor school performance ●Low self-esteem and body image IS YOUR CHILD AT RISK? The following are symptoms of tooth decay: ●Toothache ●Sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweets ●Mouth pain ●Discolored teeth ●Red or swollen gums ●Bad breath If your child has experienced any of these…. visit your dentist right away! It is worth it to brush your teeth everyday!! ●Beware of sugar! The average American consumes ½ pound of sugar a day! Caring for Your Child's Health Checking Your Child’s Hearing Does your child… Turn up the volume of the TV? Respond inappropriately to questions? Have problems in school? Complain of earaches, ear pain or head noises? Have difficulty understanding what people are saying? Seem to speak differently from other children his or her age? How to prevent hearing loss… Stay away from loud noises Turn down loud music or TV Protect your child’s ears (with ear plugs) Never stick cotton swabs in ears Regular checkups with your doctor.
