What is the IB Diploma? Created in 1968 Utilizes international standards High quality curriculum Encourages an international perspective Educates the “whole person”

Where is the IB Diploma offered? 2627 schools in 147 countries 830 U.S. High Schools 156 Canadian High Schools

Admission Criteria: None! Program is not designed for everyone. Challenging! Hard work required. Contract is required for enrollment.

$$ Cost for IB Diploma $$ $110 per exam X 6 exams = $660 Paid at time of registration (October) May be spread over Junior and Senior years Scholarships available. BTW pays an additional $160 per registrant!

CAS: Creativity, Action, and Service Experiential learning that takes place outside of the classroom. Aims: Seek balance Share talents and energy Develop awareness and concern for others Learn to work together

TOK: Theory of Knowledge AIMS: to consider what it means to know something to consider the strengths and limitations of different ways of knowing to relate subjects to personal knowledge to recognize the biases inherent in each discipline

EE: Extended Essay Students engage in independent research. Process: Due in January of senior year Select a subject area Develop a research question Present an extended argument, supported by research 4000 words maximum

Group 1: Language A Freshman Year: English I MYP or preAP Sophomore Year: English II pre-AP (rec.) Junior Year: English HL1 Senior Year: English HL2

Group II: Language B (world) Students must reach at least the 4th (SLI) level of a language. Cannot take SL exam prior to Junior year “SL”: Latin, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Japanese “HL”: French and Spanish only

What does research say about IB’s impact on college admission and enrollment?

The acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League institutions is between 3% and 13% higher compared to the total population acceptance rate. Based on student responses to a 2011 survey conducted by the IB, IB students are admitted to colleges and universities at rates higher than the general acceptance rates for the schools. On average, IB students’ acceptance rate is 22% higher than that of the total population for the school. Even at highly selective Ivy League Universities, IB students are admitted at rates 3-13% higher than the total population.
