Techno Teacher 6.13 Properties of Quadrilaterals

Anticipatory In 5 th grade you learned that a triangle has 3 sides and the sum of its angles totals 180˚ A quadrilateral is two triangles put together to make 4 sides. Quad means 4 and lateral means side (some Latin for you!) What is the sum for the angles of a quadrilateral? 180˚ Quadrilaterals sum of angles is ALWAYS 360˚

Look at the big screen to sing the quadrilateral song Study Jams Quadrilaterals

Make a cover sheet for your interactive notebook 6.13 Properties of Quadrilaterals Parallelogram Square Rectangle Rhombus Trapezoid Kite

Vocabulary 6.13 Write in notebook parallelTwo or more lines, found in the same plane, that remain the same distance apart They never intersect, just like the two “L”s in parallel.

Perpendicular Lines that meet to form right angles

Perpendicular Bisector A line which cuts a line segment into two equal parts at 90°.

Right Angle An angle whose measure is 90°

Plane Figure A two dimensional figure Doodle Bob is 2-D (Sponge Bob is 3-D)

Polygon A closed, two dimensional figure formed by three or more straight sides Bet you can’t make a polygon with two lines! Try and try, it will never happen because a shape cannot be closed with just two lines! Circles are not polygons.

Quadrilateral A polygon with four sides Quad means 4 and lateral means side

360° The sum of the measures of angles of a quadrilateral

opposite sides are parallel and opposite angles are congruent All 4 sided polygons four right angles and opposite sides parallel all sides congruent four congruent sides and all angles congruent and 90˚ Only one pair of parallel sides. No parallel sides. Two pairs of sides are congruent Copy this chart in vocabulary. Use color.

Remember, the sum of angles for quadrilaterals is always 360˚ So what is the angle measure for x? As a team, decide the answer! 35˚ 125˚ x˚80˚ Click when you have an answer to see if you are right! X = X= X = ˚

Copy and answer the following questions in your notebook Identify the quadrilateral. Arrows mean parallel. Hash marks mean congruent. Find the value of x. Remember quadrilateral angles add up to 360˚. 45˚ 115˚ x˚

Check and Correct Your Answers Identify the quadrilateral. Arrows mean parallel. Hash marks mean congruent. Find the value of x. Remember quadrilateral angles add up to 360˚. 45˚ 140˚ x˚

It is now time for independent work. This is a grade. No sharing Information with others.

Exit Ticket- You may use your notes Draw and Name the Quadrilaterals

Please shut down your computer and close. Now you are an expert on Quadrilaterals!
