HISTORY OF PTA In 1885, America Imagination of Mrs. Alic Mcclellan Birney wife of lawyer.supported by Mrs. Phobe Hearst. In India PTA was started in In1998, Supreme court gave decision to all the schools to form PTA legally by election not by selection to from each class and each division.

CONTINUED…. PTA was legally approved by the supreme court after many cases were filed by the parents against collection of heavy fees by the management. It is,mandatory for every school to form PTA.

Meaning of PTA The P.T.A. is a voluntary, non- political organization of parents, teachers, and other interested in education, who are working for the welfare of the community. P.T.A.meetings are expected to be attended by all the patents and the school staff.

Definition “ An organization of local groups of teachers and the parents of their pupils that works for the improvement of the schools and the benefit of the pupils.”

Definition……. A social group of the parents of children and their teachers formed in order to foster better understanding between them and to organize activities on behalf of the school

Objectives of PTA To promote the welfare of children of institution in home, school and community. To promote closer interaction between the home and the school. To develop awareness between the education and the community

Continued….. To promote the all round welfare of the students To appreciate the assets and liabilities of the school and the parents and work within their parameters.

Continued…… To secure for every students the optimum development from the resources of the school and the community and patents. To seek means and way of securing cooperation between the parents and the school. To raise the standard of home life.

Role of PTA To come at a common platform and work for the best benefits of their students through meetings and discussions. Organize different activities for the teachers and parents besides for their students.

Continued…… To work and live in harmony for the betterment of the school and parents. To be an active participant in decision making on different issues- fees structure.

Activities of PTA Organizing parent study groups. Organizing parent – teacher conferences. Organizing talks and lectures Organizing parents meeting. Providing incentives to talented students Conducting adult education programmes Celebrating Parents Day.
