Three Primary Things We Can Learn About Counseling From The Example of Christ To really help people we must enter their world. To really help people we must accurately interpret and explain the nature and causes of their problems to them. To really help people we must provide authoritative, God-ordained (i.e., biblical) solutions to their problems for them.

1. What does it mean to enter the world of the counselee? Generally - John 1:14; Philippians 2:5-9; Hebrews 2:11-18; Hebrews 4:15 More specifically: –Physically –Experientially –Cognitively –Emotionally Examples: –Matthew 4:1-11 –Matthew 27:29-31 –John 11:34, 35 –Luke 24:13-35 –Matthew 1414; Mark 1:41; 6:32-44; Luke 7:11-15; John 8:1-11; Revelation 2 & 3

B. How did Christ interpret and explain the nature and causes of their problems to them? Generally: –John 3:19-21 –John 15:18-24 –Luke 5:27-32 –Luke 7:40-50 –Mark 2:1-11 More Specifically: –By the life He lived He exposed the sinfulness of their thoughts, desires, motives, words, and actions. –By the words He spoke He exposed the nature and cause of their sinful thoughts, desires, motives, words and actions.

1) Mark 3:14 2)Luke 11:1 3)John 13: )John 15:24 5)John 4: )1 John 3:16 7)Ephesians 5:25 8)Ephesians 4:32; 5:1 9)So must be with us - Matthew 5:14, 16; Titus 2:6-8; 1 Peter 2:12; 3:15- 16! B. How did Christ interpret and explain the nature and causes of their problems to them? a. By the life he lived he exposed the fact that the real nature and causes of their problems was their sinful thoughts, desires, motives, words and actions.

1) Mark 7:1-23 2)Luke 6: )Matthew 7: )Matthew 23: )Luke 10: )Luke 18: )Mark 10: )Luke 22: )Luke 24: ) John 3: ) John 4: ) John 8: ) John 10: ) John 21: ) Rev. 2:2-25; 3: ) [see notes] B. How did Christ interpret and explain the nature and causes of their problems to them? b. By the words he spoke he exposed the fact that the real nature and causes of their problems was their sinful thoughts, desires, motives, words and actions.

C. Christ provided authoritative, God- ordained solutions to their problems 1.Christ did not merely interpret and explain the nature and cause of their problems; He also provided solutions to their problems for them.
