Talend Application Integration Presales Presentation The purpose of this presentation is to provide you with an overview of Talend’s products and solutions for Application Integration. It is particularly useful for Talend account executives that have recently joined Talend or are looking to refresh their knowledge on Application Integration. Before we get into the details let’s just remind ourselves about Talend’s mission.

Connecting the Data-Driven Enterprise At Talend, it’s our mission to connect the data driven enterprise. Here is one example of connecting some of the more popular systems that are the vital components of your customer’s business. We connect together data and applications. We consider ourselves to be the plumbers of the new data driven world. What that means is that if you’re trying to connect together transactional databases into a data warehouse, we do that. That’s called data integration. And we’re a pioneer in the big data space, including Hadoop and NOSQL. If you’re trying connect together applications like Salesforce.com, SAP, Netsuite, and Marketo. That’s called application integration. On top of that we provide powerful capabilities for data quality, master data management and business process management. Talend helps our customers operate in real-time with new insight about their customers, their markets and their business. How can Application Integration impact upon the data-driven enterprise?

What is Application Integration So let’s get started with What to Know and describing application integration and looking at the business problems that it addresses.

What is Application Integration? HR In the Cloud On Premises Enterprise Service Bus Shipping ERP CRM What is Application Integration? Gartner defines application integration as…“making independently designed and developed applications work together”. Because of the key role it plays in making the right data available to the right consumer at the right time, application integration has a critical position in enterprise IT.   Projects to produce modern, distributed applications that use an application infrastructure have been around for more than a decade. As developers created these applications, they learned that they don't stand-alone. Thus, IT must leverage additional application infrastructures to integrate the applications they deploy to achieve data consistency, build new composite applications, incorporate those applications into the execution of business processes and link them to external business partners. Today's software infrastructure is being challenged by new demands, including cloud computing, big data and mobile computing. ERP CRM HR Shipping Point to point only works for small numbers of applications Integrations become costly to maintain and more fragile and brittle over time Applications connected using service interfaces through a common bus Resulting architecture becomes much more agile and flexible

Service-Oriented Architecture Businesses Need Agility & Reuse Service Consumers Benefits Dramatically Increase Business Agility APIs Reusable Business Components Easily orchestrate new business processes Reusable Services Deliver Reusable Services that outlive applications Service Oriented Architectures promise just that (Business Agility and Reuse). SOA talks about the need for an approach to architecture that is based on services – these services are predominantly focused on business needs and therefore we can think in terms of business services. This picture represents a layered model where services are exposed from within the current systems environment and wrapped up in such a way that it allows them to be orchestrated and where appropriate re-used across different parts of the business. This not only makes it easier for the services to be consumed but it also provides a degree of abstraction and insulation between the higher level processes that support the business and the underlying systems and applications where the data is processed and managed. Breaking this direct connection between service consumers and applications is what makes it possible for the business to be much more agile. The big question is how do I achieve this level of agility, flexibility, and re-use with my current IT investments. Based on best-in-class and extensible open source technology, Talend combines common graphical tooling, repository, deployment, execution and monitoring capabilities, allowing organizations to rapidly take advantage of more applications and data resources than ever before. A single, Eclipse-based tooling environment allows the development team to model, configure, test and deploy solutions that combine data integration, data quality, application integration and business process management. And the Operations team use one graphical tool to monitor the activity of any job, service, or application. Organizations benefit from increases in developer productivity, a completely modular and extensible architecture, team development support and access to an almost limitless number of connectors. Services Big Data ready, IoT, Mobile There is a lot of information on this slide. You may wish to come back and review this slide again when you are more familiar with the overall value proposition. This will help you to hone your skills and increase your knowledge about Talend Application Integration. Design Graphical design of REST/Web services and BPM - Only Talend ESB allows developers to develop, build, test and publish Java Web services, REST applications, data services and integration solutions – all from a single user interface. Talend speeds time to project completion by making developers more productive through an Eclipse-based tooling environment for modeling, testing, and deploying integration solutions. 800+ Pre-built connectors out of the box - Talend ESB allows users to effortlessly combine data integration with a Web service using a graphical palette of components and connectors. Talend’s open source ESB provides access to a library of over 800 connectors supporting all types of sources and targets for data integration, migration or synchronization. Supports Enterprise Integration Patterns - Talend allows you to design integration solutions based on Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIPs) – a standard set of integration templates used to address common integration needs. Talend supports more EIPs than any other vendor. Test Test directly from within Talend Studio - Developers can simulate messaging routes from within Eclipse and observe the execution flow, through statistics on each aspect of the route that is executed for each message. By providing a functional view of the actual integration processes, Talend Open Studio significantly increases developer productivity, freeing users to focus on more complex tasks. In addition, you can simulate unwritten services to start testing components before others are available for assembly. Support for functional & load testing - All-in-one functional, load and security testing and service simulation allows organizations to increase the success of projects by identifying issues during development. Functional tests help to verify that your Web services work as they should, service simulation capabilities make it possible to see how services behave under different load conditions, and security testing ensures that your Web services are protected from vulnerabilities. Tests can be automated to further increase productivity and quality. Visualize end-to-end flow simulation - Visibility into live statistics of data or message flow activity within a specific integration route enables rapid prototyping for developers, dramatically reducing development and testing cycles. With Talend BPM users can simulate process execution with parameters such as cost, duration, resource consumption, calendar, and identify candidates for optimization. Deploy On-premises, in cloud and hybrid - Talend provides flexible and secure integration of on-premises, in cloud and hybrid IT environments and automates deployment on cloud platforms. Based on Talend’s Unified Integration Platform, the solution improves developer productivity by leveraging a common environment for managing the entire lifecycle of integration processes.  Users can more rapidly respond to integration requirements by deploying and managing upgrades through a centralized repository and web based deployment console. Built in distributed lightweight ESB - Talend ESB leverages Apache Karaf as its small footprint, OSGi-based runtime. This provides a lightweight distributed container onto which various components and applications can be deployed. Talend ESB can use the most appropriate transport mechanism available, thus ensuring interoperability with any other system. In cases in which asynchronous transport is called for Talend ESB uses a messaging system while keeping both systems independent. Talend ESB also supports the ability to add quality of service policies including security, reliability, transactionality and configure them as needed. Policy driven enterprise class security - Talend ESB provides a Security Token Service (STS), which allows ‘trust' to be established between parties using the latest security standards for Web Services. Talend's Service Registry supports the many real-world situations where multiple providers for the same logical service differ significantly in the quality of service they provide and/or the assumptions they make about the caller (such as requiring authentication with a specific security token etc.). Policies are a common and standardized way of describing such assumptions in a machine-understandable fashion. With The Service Registry we support the authoring and creation of these Policies and WS-Policies. It uses a wizards based User Interface (UI) to help the developer to complete these tasks. Manage Centralized monitoring, and alerting - The Talend Administration Center is a graphical console that facilitates administration of production integration environments by providing service activity monitoring and service locator capabilities. Service Activity Monitoring captures events and stores this information to facilitate in-depth analysis of service activity and track-and-trace of messages throughout a business transaction. This can be used to analyze service response times, identify traffic patterns, perform root cause analysis, send out automated alerts and more. Fault tolerant, scalable and flexible - All Talend run-time components can be set up to work in a mode of high availability. Through the Service Locator, Talend ESB provides automatic and transparent failover and load balancing via dynamic endpoint registration and lookup through Apache Zookeeper. Service Locator maintains the availability of the service to help meet demands and service level agreements (SLAs). Consistent infrastructure - Talend provides a consistent single-platform approach to both data integration and application integration. Talend ESB is particularly appropriate for organizations that wish to take a consistent approach to integration based on reusable tooling and services across both data and applications. Extend Data Services and SOA - Talend provides integration of Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and Business Process Management (BPM) with point-and-click connectivity between a business process and a web service running on the ESB. For many SOA integration projects, BPM and ESB technologies complement one another, resulting in a streamlined development environment to build a process and easily leverage an existing service interface, reducing the cost of integrating, testing and deploying business processes. Identity Management Services - Talend provides Identity Services (who are you) and Authorization Services (what are you allowed to do). The Talend Identity Service is based on Apache Syncope which provides for the central management of runtime users and roles. The Talend Authorization Service is based on the eXtensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML) standard and provides access control at the Service / Service Operation level for SOAP services and access control at the URL / Verb level for RESTful Services. Future proof (IoT, Mobile, Big Data) - Because Talend is open, it can help you meet your key integration needs today, and adapt to support tomorrow’s requirements. No matter what’s ahead, your team will have the relevant skills and tools it needs. With Talend, your developers become more productive, flexible, and valued. And your organization stays agile, competitive, and prepared. So scaling skills isn’t just about empowering developers—it’s about ensuring the ongoing success of your business.
