2. Second Step Lesson 7 BREAK UP WITH MY PARTNER,

Partner/Table Discussion: Why do people stay in bullying or abusive relationships anyway? Why don’t they just leave or break up?

People stay in abusive/bullying relationships because: 1. the abuser has pushed their self-esteem down so far they don’t believe they deserve better. 2. The bully is threatening to hurt them or loved ones. 3. they have no financial means of support on their own 4. they don’t know they are being bullied/manipulated/controlled/lied to. 5. they love the bully. THIS IS WHY THE VICTIM NEEDS OUR SUPPORT AND MAYBE EVEN A SAFE PLACE TO GO OR HIDE

If there is anything about the relationship that is frightening, find a way to leave the relationship. Remember, it is your right to say “No.” It doesn’t just happen to girls! No one should treat you this way. If you think you are already in an Abusive relationship, get help. Go to the Student Counseling Center for for information about hotlines, adults, groups, etc. that can help.
