THINK What can you tell us about Mother Goose? Mother Goose is often referred to as the mother of nursery rhymes. You usually see her picture on the cover of a collection of nursery rhymes.

THINK What are some nursery rhymes that you know? Some examples of nursery rhymes are: Humpty Dumpty Mistress Mary Hickory Dickory Dock Baa Baa Black Sheep

Look at these illustrations. What nursery rhymes are these characters from? How can you tell?

Are these pictures from the past or the present? How can you tell?

“ Hi, my name is Mother Goose. Now we are going to read some rhymes from my book that was written in 1901.” “Is that past or present? How do you know?”

“NOW… Are you READY to.. LET LOOSE WITH MOTHER GOOSE?” “The first nursery rhyme we will read is about someone who falls off a wall…”

THINK! Is this Humpty Dumpty rhyme different from the Humpty Dumpty rhyme you have read before? How has Humpty Dumpty changed over time?

Do you know who I am? Do you know what I am thinking? Why do I look like this now? How am I feeling? Why?

“ Well, I just talked to my friend, Humpty and he feels all better now.” “I hear you study about weather! Do you know a nursery rhyme that has to do with the weather?“

There are so many different ways to say, "Rain, Rain Go Away!“ There are so many different ways to say, "Rain, Rain Go Away!“ Do you think you could write your own version of Rain, Rain Go Away?

“ Well, I’m so glad the weather cleared up. Everyone knows that rain helps THE GARDEN GROW. Hmm…that makes me think of our next nursery rhyme. Can anyone predict what nursery rhyme it will be?”

THINK Is this Mary Quite Contrary rhyme the same as what you have heard or read? How has it changed or stayed the same?

“Well, kids its about time to finish up our exploration of nursery rhymes from the past.” “Oh my…speaking of time…don’t you learn about telling time in school?” “What nursery rhyme reminds you of telling time?“

THINK Is this the same as the nursery rhyme you’ve read or heard before? How has it changed or stayed the same over time?

“Okay before I go, I want you to THINK! Are all these nursery rhymes we’ve shared from the past or the present?” Have they changed over time? Why or why not? Now all my friends I would like to say thank you and keep learning! “

Past and Present Describe how these characters might be different than the characters you know.
