EDIBLE OR NOT BOOK ART CONTEST Presented by Truman Middle School

TRUMAN LIBRARY MARCH 10 TH 6:00-7:30 p.m.

WHAT IS AN EDIBLE BOOK ART CONTEST?  Edible books showcase literary inspiration by using puns to change the title, the author, or take the shape or form of a book.  The festival honors French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin ( ), famous for his book, The Physiology of Taste, a witty meditation on food. His birth date is April 1st. He wrote: The discovery of a new dish confers more happiness on humanity than the discovery of a new star.  The event is usually held on or close to April Fool’s Day.

RULES 1.Use one or more edible ingredients! 2.DO NOT EAT the displays! 3.Must be present to vote! 4.Please bring the book to display!

THOUGHTS TO CONSIDER  Edible books are often eaten afterwards, but our exhibits will not be eaten due to health hazards!  Also, due to the expense and waste of food items during a poor economic time, a requirement is only 1 ingredient must be food.  Use recycled items such as paper, cardboard, plastic, styrofoam etc.  Students do not have to participate!  Teams are encouraged.
