Today, we will: 1.Discuss Career Pathways and CTE Courses 2.Discuss options for elective courses 3.Review and make changes to your 4 year plan courses in Bridges

Considerations before changing Graduation Plan  What is my pathway? Will the new graduation plans benefit me?  Which endorsements can I earn?  Check College Admission requirements  Some programs require certain courses Changes to graduation plans will not be made in order to drop courses…Plan ahead!

Earn While You Learn!  Marketing Dynamics  Earn high school credit while gaining work experience  Must have/obtain job before semester starts  Students attend one class of Marketing Dynamics and receive two release periods  Students will earn 3 full elective credits

Practicums & Certifications  If interested in taking any of the practicum or certification classes:  Add class to your 4 year plan in Bridges  Check Course Guide for pre-requisites (ex: Auto Collision requires EPT, Health Science requires Principles of Health Science, etc.)  Program Directors will contact you before the end of year  Attendance and Discipline is considered

Physical Education (1 credit required)  PE Classes – Team Sports, Individual Sports, FPF, Aerobics  Athletics (any school sport)  Fall semester of Cheerleading  Fall semester of Band  JROTC  Silver Stars or Dance 1  Off-Campus PE through approved vendor (requires approval BEFORE semester start – see counselor for details)

Fine Arts (1 credit required)  Options for Fine Arts  Art  Theater Arts or Tech Theater  Orchestra  Band  Choir  Dance  Floral Design  Notes  Fall semester Band is under PE (½ credit only)  Dance 1 can count for 1 fine art and 1 PE credit

Languages Other Than English (2 credits required)  Spanish, French, or American Sign Language  Must take 2 years of the SAME language  Ex: Spanish 1 & Spanish 2  Upper level options:  Spanish III Level  Spanish III PreAP  Spanish III PreAP Dual  Spanish IV AP  Spanish IV AP Dual  ASL III Level  French III PreAP  French III PreAP Dual  French IV AP  French IV AP DUal

Speech (1/2 credit for RHSP)  Several options for “speech” credit:  Communications Applications  Teen Leadership (is under “electives”)  Debate (the full year)  AVID (the full year)  Professional Communications (in the CTE Electives)

Want College Credit? Two options for college bound students! Two options for college bound students!  Dual Credit  Requires passing scores on TSI Assessment  Earn up to 6+ hours of college credit per class  Options include – English 4, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, US History, Government, Economics, French, and Spanish  College Prep (Seniors Only)  Does not require passing score on TSI Assessment  Earn up to 3 hours of college credit per class  No Remedial classes once you enter college  Options include English and College Algebra Sign up in Bridges today!  If you sign up for Dual Credit Classes in Bridges, Mrs. Herbst (in the library) will contact you  Eligibility for Dual Credit classes is determined by taking an entrance exam at Lonestar College  If you don’t meet requirements, you can still earn college credit! Please ask questions today! Dual Credit = College Credit

Aide and Release Periods  Office Aide Requirements  Seniors only  Application Required (Pick up from House Office)  Attendance and Discipline considered  Indicate on Application the course you want to drop if selected to be an aide  Early Release/Late Arrival Requirements  Parent Permission Form Signed  Passed all required EOC exams  Juniors = Have at least 15 credits earned  Seniors = Have at least 20 credit earned

Reviewing and Updating Your 4 year Plan Log in to Portfolio Name = humble + your ID (ex: humble123456) Password = your ID (ex: )

 Select Choices Planner  Click Your Portfolio (Green Tab)  Click Your Plans  Scroll down to see your purple plan for grades purple plan for grades *If you do not see a purple plan, raise your hand now*

Am I on the right Pathway?  Pathway determines the courses you should take…if your interests change, then change your pathway!  If your pathway isn’t correct, we can help you change that today!  If you forget a class, counselors look at this to choose classes for you!!!

Missing credits?  Look at your 6 th column - Credits. It shows required number of credits for each subject.  All 26 credits needed for graduation MUST be on this plan.  Please see your counselor for a credit retrieval plan if you are missing credits or are off-track for graduation (indicated by big red X).

Things to Remember!  Remove unwanted courses  When adding courses, be sure to add “A” & “B” sections for full year  Some classes may be listed under different headings (ex: Teen Leadership is under Electives, not Speech)  Be sure to select Return to your Course Plan to save changes!

Please look at the bottom of your purple plan Please verify that Total Planned Credits = 7* for the grade level you will enter next year! *or 6 for students that QUALIFY for late arrival/early release

Important Information!!!  Bridges plans are only open for editing until January 30th  Confirmation of Course Selections for will be given to students on MARCH 27th MARCH 27th  How to make changes March 27 th - June 6 th  Update Bridges 4 year plan (REQUIRED)  Print copy of 4 year plan  Give to counselor to make change
