SCIENCE 2014/16  1. Core Science  2.Triple Science  3. BTEC Applied Science

CORE SCIENCE  In Year 10: 10 hours per fortnight (1 WBQ). Study Biology (B1), Chemistry (C1) & Physics (P1). WJEC Controlled Assessments Three examinations in Year 10 (June 2015). Science GCSE awarded in Year 10. WBQ Application of Number Key skill – level 1. Higher Band: WBQ Application of Number Key skill – level 2.

CORE SCIENCE  In Year 11: A new course – Additional Science. New work in the three sciences. New Controlled assessments Three exams June 2016 (B2, C2, P2). New & separate GCSE award in Additional Science.

TRIPLE SCIENCE  15 hours per fortnight.  Separate GCSE awards in Biology, Chemistry & Physics at end of Y11.  Five examinations in Year 10 – (B1, B2, C1, P1, P2).  Four examinations in Year 11 – (B3, C2, C3, P3)  Controlled Assessment in each Science.  Suitable only for potential A Level Scientists  WBQ Application of Number Key skill – level 2.

APPLIED SCIENCE  BTEC level 2 Vocational course.  10 hours per fortnight.  Two year course.  100% Portfolio based – class based work.  Not suitable for potential A Level Scientists.  WBQ Application of Number Key skill – level 1.
