CHUM You can do it. We will help. Faith at Home “The Extended Spiritual Family” I & II Timothy Pastor Brian C. Sweeney

CHUM You can do it. We will help. The Goal of this series: To help you see the urgent need to bring Jesus into the center of your home. The Goal of CHUM: Partnering with you to help bring Jesus into the center of your home.

CHUM You can do it. We will help. Challenges from Week One: Pray for Faith at Home in your house and for CHUM Choose a “witness stone” for your home. Go through each room of your home to ask God how he wants you to spiritually makeover the area of your life the room symbolizes.

CHUM You can do it. We will help. Challenges from Week Two: Create a “life priority plan” for your household. What do you want your children and grandchildren’s families to look like? What changes do you and your household need to make in order to love God with all your heart, soul and strength? How can you pass faith on to the people in your household?

CHUM You can do it. We will help. Challenges from Week Three: Is your household all aboard the spiritual “T.R.A.I.N.”? T ime: carving out ways for praying and reading scripture. R epetition: reminding each other the foundations of our faith. A cceptance: accepting one another’s unique God-given gifts. I ntentionality: involving Christ in all areas of your lives. N ever-ending: taking every chance to share God stories.

CHUM You can do it. We will help. The church is an extended spiritual family when: 1. We mentor and are being mentored in the Christian faith. 2 Timothy 3:14 and 15 – “Continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” Challenge 1: Do you own the responsibility to care for the spiritual lives of the people God has put in your life?

CHUM You can do it. We will help. The church is an extended spiritual family when: 2. We make prayer and reading scripture foundational in our relationships. a. Pray for and with your faith partners. 2 Timothy 1: 3, 6 3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self- discipline.

CHUM You can do it. We will help. Challenge 2: Do you pray and read scripture in community with others?

CHUM You can do it. We will help. 3. We model the Christian life. 2 Timothy 1: So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, 10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher. 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. Challenge 3: Are you modeling the Christian life?

CHUM You can do it. We will help. It’s time – To turn a small “investment” into a big difference.

CHUM You can do it. We will help. It’s time – to try something new. For the last years families have tried to live without faith at home. They’ve tried to have the church be the main force in instilling faith in their own lives and in the lives of their families. It hasn’t worked. “For all their specialized training, church professionals realize that if a child is not receiving basic Christian nurture in the home, even the best teachers and curriculum will have minimal impact. Once a week exposure simply cannot compete with daily experience where personal formation is concerned.”

CHUM You can do it. We will help. It’s time – to dream big while they are still small… It’s time – to start… You can do it… We will help We are committed to partner with you – to educate you, equip you, encourage you – to give you all the help you need in making Jesus the center focus of your home and your life.
