Charles I – King of England, Scotland, Ireland. Second son of King James VI of Scotland. Quarrelled with the Parliament of England. Dissolved Parliament three times. Country split in two.
The Civil War Cavaliers and Roundheads the Royalist army was finally defeated. Oliver Cromwell. “Model” army King was sold to Parliament. Escaped Short lived second Civil War. In 1649 he was captured and executed
Oliver Cromwell Emerged as the power in the country. Dissolved the parliament. Started England’s only dictatorship. HIGHLY religious man (Fast day) Died in His son Richard succeeded him. Free elections. The Commonwealth
Charles II Returned with skill. Shared his fathers belief. Was attracted to the Catholic Church. First parties. Charles had no heir and his brother James II succeeded him in 1685.
The Plauge 1655 This time was different. The nobility left the city. Certificate of health. Dogs and cats were killed. Coloured staffs. King Charles did not return until February in 1666.
