Imagery Frankenstein

Imagery Authors utilize imagery to bring a literary work to life. By using descriptive language, an author can pain a picture in the reader’s mind.

Mary Shelley Shelley incorporates numerous examples of imagery when Victor spies his creation while traveling in Switzerland.

Directions Copy down a minimum of two phrases or sentences from Chapter 7 that appeal to the senses of sight, sound, and touch. When you have completed this, look through the text to find examples of Victor comparing his emotions to his surroundings. Be sure to include the page and paragraph number after each quote.

Sample Sight Sound Touch Emotional Response “I contemplated the lake: the waters were placid; all around was calm; and the snowy mountains, “the palaces of nature,’ were not changed.” (p.73, par.1 Sound Touch Emotional Response

Writing Assignment Utilize the quotes from your chart to write a paragraph explaining how Mary Shelley uses imagery to mirror Victor’s mood as well as to evoke feelings of foreboding in the reader. Should compare how Victor’s mood changes with how he perceives the landscape and its changes as night falls.
