External Drives An external flash drive, also known as a thumb drive, is a removable storage device that connects to a USB port. A flash drive uses the same non-volatile memory chips as solid state drives and does not require power to maintain data.

Tape Drive A data device that reads and performs digital recording, write data on a magnetic tape. Magnetic tape data is commonly used for offline, archival data storage.

Solid State Drive Removable SSD could be anything around the lines of SD cards, thumb drive, flash drive, USB. These devices have no moving parts, and do not need power to maintain data.

External CD-RW and Hard Drive An external hard drive is a hard drive contained in it’s own case for use outside of one designated computer.
