 Born on February 3, 1894 in NYC.  When he was a boy his father would read aloud books such as Oliver Twist and David Copperfield. Norman would draw the characters as he saw the events happening in the story.  He started attending art classes when he was only 14.  In 1913, when he was only 19, Norman Rockwell became the art editor for Boys’ Life, a magazine published by the Boy Scouts of America.

 Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine for more than 40 years.  He produced over 4,000 original works in his lifetime.  Rockwell was also illustrated over 40 books including Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

 In 1961, he painted ”The Golden Rule”. He wanted to show that "doing unto others as you would have them do unto you" was something on which people of most religions could agree, regardless of their creed or belief. In the picture we see people of many nationalities.
