Origins of Islam 1 There are three different explanations of the origins of Islam. According to Secular History, Islam is traced back to the 7 th century in Saudi Arabia. a) It is said that the Muhammad, the prophet, has read the Qur’an out loud. b) He introduced Islam in 610 A.D to the people and they believed that those were words of Allah. According to Islam, Islam has started a long time before Muhammad. a) Although Muhammad did read the Qur'an out loud, the Qur’an didn’t originate from Muhammad. b) It is said that the Qur’an was given from God who sent the angel Gabriel to give it to Muhammad. Origins of Islam 2  Those are some of the ways or explanations of the origins of Islam.  However, most people believe that the religion has started out in Mecca. Therefore it is a holy city that every true Islam prays to.  It is also said that Gabriel has read the Qur’an to Muhammad.  It is believed that the religion has started at the beginning of the universe.  The Qur’an are the literal words of Allah in the language of Arabic. Major tenets of Islamic Belief 1 A major belief is the Five Pillars of Islam. a) Shahada (Testify) - the strong belief in God(Allah) b) Salah (Prayer) - You have to do prayer during dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and night c) Seyam (Fasting) - You have to fast during the month of Ramadan d) Zakat (Charity) - You have to give to the poor and even feed them if necessary e) Hajj (Pilgrimage)- You have to go to mecca at least once in your lifetime. The Five Pillars are very important to follow because they make up a true Muslim. Source: "Islam Beliefs and Practices." Islam Beliefs and Practices. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 Oct

Major tenets of Islamic Belief 2 The Pillars of Faith are something like The Pillars of Islam a) Belief in God(Allah)- Teaches that only one God exists and that is Allah b) Belief in Mala-eka(Angels)- Muslims should believe in invisible Angles and their tasks. c) Belief in the books of Allah- Believed all books came from one source and that is Allah. d) Belief in the prophets of Allah- Believed that all prophets are real and are sent for peoples’ guidance e) Belief in Yawm al-Qiyama(Day of Judgment)- Believed that all life will come to an end and Allah will judge who is good and evil. f) Qada Wal-Qada(Destiny)- That all actions in the universe are controlled by Allah Source: "Islam Beliefs and Practices." Major Tenets of Islamic Belief 3 A lot of people believe that Islam is related to war in a negative way. Just because a certain group that is Islamic attacks your two identical buildings, doesn’t mean that their religion is bad. War is actually a last resort in Islam if peace offerings aren’t accepted. It is for defensive purposes and offensive purposes too. Islam is all about peace and living freely somewhat like Christianity. Most people think Jihad means Holy War. That too is false. It means struggling or striving for goals in Islam. Women in Islam are very highly treated with respect. There are not treated as shown in some movies. It is probably just a stereotype of many people and groups. They also have priorities depending on them so women and men are treated equally under Islam. Source: "Islam Beliefs and Practices." Expectations of a practicing Muslim As said for major tenets, The Five Pillars of Islam are also expectations of a Muslim. Elderly people like would most likely be the ones to be strict on that expecation. For a women in Islam, she is fully respected with the dowry she is ok with. She should wear a Hijab. It is the black garment that most female Muslims wear to cover there whole head. Men are not allowed to wear gold or silk. Source: Islam Beliefs and Practices." Islam Beliefs and Practices. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 Oct

Expectations of a practicing Muslim 2 Women should not wear clothing that shows appealing body parts. Men are the responsible figures of the family. They make the important decisions and do what they think is right for their family. They are the kings of the family. Their privileges are very customary such as not allowing someone that they don’t like. They also put their property in the care of their wives. Source 1: "Topics." Muslim Men. N.p., n.d. Role of Islam in Afghan politics and life. (Politics) Shia and Sunni can be like a Republican or Democrat kind of stuation. There can be a Shia party and Sunni party. It is influenced by Islam because it causes these parties to occur. The Taliban was very rampant and was maneuvering the government. They are extremists and they have been terrorizing areas and mostly America. Source: "Council on Foreign Relations." Council on Foreign Relations. N.p., n.d. Web. 10 Oct

Role of Islam in Afghan politics and life. (Life) Eighty percent of Afghanistan’s population is Sunni. Nineteen of Afghanistan population is Shia. The rest is only one percent of other religions. As said again in previous slides, the Five Pillars and other beliefs are also part of the Afghan culture. Although some groups that are aggravated like extremist groups just try to go corrupt something. Politics and life that have been influenced by Islam surely turns out to be different.
