Welcome to the Northeast Region! Northeastern Region By: Liana Jackson

Location~ Top 3 major cities: New York Boston Pittsburgh Resources: coal, gravel, iron, natural gas, oil, sand, stone, zinc, fruits, veggies, poultry, and cattle. Longitude: 74° 43' W to 80° 31' W Latitude: 39° 43' N to 42° N Relative Location to Compass: East of the Midwest region, East of the west region.

My Opinion question on Location~ What could be some of the reasons people chose to live in this region or large city? Answer: Some reasons why they choose to move here, is because New York is a major city with a lot of jobs in office buildings, they can make big money in the big apple. People may choose to also live here because they may be in the show biz, and decide to be on Broadway.

Place~ Religions: Christian, Protestant, Roman Catholic, Jewish, & Buddhist Customs/ Traditions: Christmas, Easter, St.Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Fourth of July, New Years, Mardi Gras, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Ground Hog Day, Thanksgiving, and Halloween. Landforms: The Alleghenies in Pennsylvania, The Appalachian Mountains, The Catskills Mts. in New York, The Green Mts. in Vermont, The White Mts. of New Hampshire Climate Patterns: Cold and windy in the winter, wet and rainy in the spring, hot and humid in the summer. Average low for summer is 70˚F. Average low in spring is 45˚F. Average low in winter is 26˚F.

My Opinion question on Place~ What effect does climate have on settlement patterns in the region? Answer: The effect is…. when people are walking place to place, it may affect the way they dress. Also, when traveling by car, it may make it harder to travel, or work if your job is outside.

H.E.I.~ Economic Issues: The northeast is having rural development issue, with The schools, are having issues with having to pay taxes for school, which isn’t helping their families budgets. People are having troubles finding homes to live in, if they decide to move because of rural areas, they can’t afford, because the land mass is huge, so in some areas, like in new York, it might be harder to find a job in the business that it is to find and outdoor job in the rural. Climate effecting region: The rainy weather has affected the communities, because there has been major flooding. Another thing that is happening, is the heat keeps increasing, and the air flow is decreasing. This is happening in urban areas, and is hurting people’s health.

My Opinion question on H.E.I.~ How has pollution affected the lives of the people in the region? Answer: I think that the population has been ok because, it may be crowded in more areas than others. Such as the “Big Apple” is way more crowded, and over populated with people, than Pennsylvania.

Movement~ Why people chose to live here, and where: Most people have chosen to live in New York, because it offers a lot of jobs and there are more apartments that may be smaller, but cheaper, than buying a home. In the rural areas, such as Pennsylvania, there is more open areas, where you could live in the country life. How are goods and services transported to this region?: Most of the time, goods are transported by semi-trucks. But, things that are being imported from other countries are transported by planes and fairies. When traveling by semi-trucks going to New York, they use highway 81 and 87. Interesting traditions: There really isn’t no interesting traditions besides the normal ones, and the most popular one that could be considered interesting would be the New Years Eve/Day crystal ball the drops. New York usually holds that and people watch that nationwide.

My Opinion question on Movement~ What might happen if one or more of the major transportation routes within the region were interrupted? Answer: If something were like to happen like this, I think that this would be a big headline all over the news; people would have to use their resources wisely until they fix the problem.

Regions~ Major Tourist Attractions: Some big attractions would be the Statue of Liberty, in New York, The Empire State building, Rockefeller Center, Ellis island immigration museum, American Museum of Natural history, Central Park, Mark Twain house, Ocean Beach park, Danbury Railway museum, and The Lake Compounce Theme Park

My Opinion question on Regions~ What economic impact does the region have on the U.S. economy? Answer: The impact on the U.S. would be for the natural resources, because in the rural areas, they are having issues with building and things. But, with the more populated areas, there have more economic issues because in New York, they use a lot of money.
