FIRST GRADE “JEOPARDY” READING GAME and MATH GAME This “scores” will be kept on index cards by the kids in a dollar value. I will collect cards at the end and incorporate the results into another separate math lesson. THIS GAME CAN BE PLAYED AT ONE SETTING OR STOPPED MID-WAY AND RESTARTED. Jeopardy template (only) reproduced from André White and illustrations reproduced with permission from www. Seussville.com

EVERY STUDENT HAS 26 INDEX CARDS WITH THEIR NAMES ON EACH CARD. AS WE GO THROUGH THE GAME AND ANSWER QUESTIONS YOU WILL MAKE TWO PILES: A CORRECT PILE and a DISCARD PILE. IN THE CORRECT PILE GOES ALL OF THE CARDS THAT YOU PUT THE CORRECT ANSWER ON. IN THE DISCARD PILE YOU WILL PUT ALL THE CARDS THAT YOU ANSWERED INCORRECTLY ON. YOU WILL ALSO WRITE THE DOLLAR AMOUNT FROM THE CORRECT ANSWERS ON YOUR CARD.

PLEASE PAY CLOSE ATTENTION AND PLACE ALL CARDS IN THE CORRECT PILE, I WILL COLLECT ONLY THE INDEX CARDS FROM THE CORRECT PILE AT THE END OF THE GAME. WE WILL PRACTICE OUR MATH LESSON, BY ADDING UP THE TOTAL SCORE FROM THE GAME. Allow all students to briefly ask questions to make sure they understand what is going on – before we get started playing the game!
