Presentation transcript:

Christmas in Poland, that the greatest moment is the evening of December 24, always remains in Poland the most important celebration.

Christmas and Santa Claus Day are not celebrated at the same time in Poland, but rather three weeks apart. Santa Claus Day is celebrated on December 6th.

On Christmas Eve, the whole family gathers and waits impatiently for the appearance of the first star. With its first gleam, they all approach a table covered with hay and a snow-white tablecloth.

Special tasks carried out during Advent are the baking of the Christmas gingerbread. Pierniki are made in a variety of shapes, including hearts, animals and St. Nicholas figures.

Traditionally, the Christmas tree is decorated on the Wigilia day. Today, the Christmas tree is adorned with apples, oranges, candies and small chocolates, hand-blown glass ornaments, candles or lights, and home-made paper chains.

One of the most beautiful and most revered Polish customs is the breaking of the wafer. The wafer is a thin wafer made of flour and water. We divide the wafer and we give a wish.

Some of the more popular Christmas carols are: "To the Town of Bethlehem","Let Us All Go ","Rejoice Bethlehem", "God is Born", "Midst Quiet Night", "Hush- A-Bye Little Jesus”.
