Christmas Christmas is the main public holiday in Britain and the US. This Christian holy day is held on December 25thin honour of the birth of Christ. They usually spend time with their families, eat special food and drink a lot.
Carol singing People sometimes go carol singing, which means singing carols in the street, outsaide people`s houses. Many of them celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Carols were first sung in the 14th century. In England during the 16th century, the Puritans tried to stop people singing carols, but the words continued to be handed down from one generation to the next. In the 19th century many of these carols were collected and printed.
Santa Claus Santa Claus is an in imaginary old man in red clothes and with long white beard. Young children are told that Santa Claus will bring them presents if they are good. Children write a letter to Santa Claus telling him what present they would like for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, they often have out something for him to eat or drink.
Decorate People usually decorate there houses and many people have a Christmas tree with coloured balls or lights on it in there house which they also decorate. Central place is the festively decorated tree.
