Our Clay Gingerbread houses!

First step, get ideas! We can get ideas from looking at other artist’s work There’s no shortage of pictures on line!

Lets look at some more examples…

I love the little candy cane swirl Christmas trees!!!! And the wreath! I wonder what it’s made with?

Notice how they are on a platform or base. We will construct our house on a 10x10” base.

What kind of candies can we decorate our houses with?

Gum Drops and Hard Candies are a must. Have you guys ever seen candy like this?

But peppermint accents really make it feel like christmas!

I’m really digging the piped icing on the edge of the roof. Take a close look at the roof textures too.

This is a bit too large, but I love how clean and elegant this gingerbread mansion looks.

These pieces were kept simple, but iced with beautiful linear details. There are many styles of gingerbread house. What will you choose?

Step 2: Planning No matter what style of gingerbread house you choose, we will need to start building with a template. This is merely a front/back image.

It’s not hard to find templates online. When looking for one, be sure to see a final image of what it will turn out like. Of course you always have the option of designing your own from scratch. You will need: A matching front and back panel, Two matching side panels, and two roof panels. Don’t’ forget a chimney! We can cut out windows and doors later.

Don’t let this happen to you! If you don’t follow directions with construction, you will take a chance of complete DESTRUCTION! Remember to score and slip.. …use plastic to keep moist, and newspaper to dry out…. And most importantly, LISTEN TO YOUR TEACHER!!!!
