Outcomes In this breakout session, participants will: Learn about Ed. Code and Title 5 as it relates to Academic and Professional Matters; Engage in dialog regarding common questions such as “Where is that written?”

Ed. Code and Title 5

Education Code What is Ed. Code? The Laws resulting from legislation pertaining to education, Changes are made through legislation (or budget action), Always supercedes Title 5 regulation, Governance was amended by AB 1725 in 1988,

Important Sections of Ed. Code Beginning with section 22000, codifies STRS Title 3, Division 7: California Community Colleges o General Provisions Academic Senate has primary responsibility for recommendations regarding curriculum Districts and Governing Boards Student Records, including privacy Finance and Budget Apportionment and Funding

Important Sections of Ed. Code Employees Employment of Faculty Evaluation of Faculty Reduction in Force Faculty Salaries

Title 5 What is Title 5? California Code of Regulations Derived and approved by the Board of Governors from the California Education Code Division 6 - applies to California Community Colleges Regulation with the force of law

Important Sections of Title 5 Division 6: California Community Colleges o Chapter 1: Board of Governors o Chapter 4: Employees o Chapter 5: Students o Chapter 6: Curriculum and Instruction o Chapter 9: Fiscal Support o Chapter 10: Administration of Colleges Includes instructional materials (subchapter 7)

Important Sections of Title 5 Title 5 and the Academic Senate: Section (b) o Defines and empowers academic senates Section (c) o Lists the “10+1” Section (d) o Defines “consult collegially,” “primarily rely,” and “mutually agree”
