Addenbrookes past and present In 1766 the founders of the hospital had a small building with limited equipment and resources. They never thought that in 2014 it would be one of the country's leading hospitals, with many jobs available. In the late 1970’s addenbrookes moved from its location in the city centre to the much larger site on the south side of town where still located and expanding today Then Now
Gardeners A team of 4 grounds men with two full time and two part time workers, help make the hospital grounds look like a comforting, appealing place to be. The team work 6 days a week and their work has been recognised by many and some have even gone to as far as saying they are the nicest hospital grounds in the country.
Hotel services You may be surprised to discover that these are not your typical hotel services. They actually control all the cleaning of the wards in the hospital. This involves a deep clean process in which they remove everything from the ward and clean it from top to bottom in 24 hours! After the process has been completed everything is swabbed and if not up to standards, the room must be cleaned again.
Catering There are no chefs in Addenbrookes! All the food is prepared off site and brought in. This a much more hygienic way of preparing the food. There is a team of 12 catering staff and it is their job to supply and deliver over 1500 meals to the patients.
Maintenance There are a team of 8 maintenance people who work 24 hours a day 7 days a week, keeping the hospital under control. They do any thing from removing coke cans from the toilet pipes, to fixing 4 broken lifts a day.
Post There are 12 people in the mail room who receive over 100kg of mail a day working 12 hours a day. It is their job to sort, deliver and send all the mail in the hospital to the different departments.
Waste All the waste in the hospital is sorted. This could include; used bed sheets to body parts removed in surgery. It is under the control of a team of just 10 people who work 24 hours a day in the hope of improving the hospitals waste system.
Sustainability Sustainability is a big part of Addenbrookes. A team of 6 people work to help make Addenbrookes a more sustainable place now and in the future. They look towards the environmental future of the hospital as it is expanding a lot, so it is important to focus on sustainability.
