Andrea Popeau-Thomas – Andrea provides support to the staff and students on business related courses.

WHAT WE DO - Staff In addition to a direct service to students and graduates, CaSE also offers academic colleagues employability related information and training. The purpose of this is to support the embedding of employability into teaching and learning, whilst providing teaching staff with the resources to facilitate this. The CaSE Careers Consultant linked to each academic school can provide the following support:  Support with delivering employability to students  Support with providing employability scripts for personal tutors  Provision of labour market expertise  Staff training on employability topics  Provision of speakers/employers for lecture

 Careers Guidance – Bookable, one-to-one appointments with careers guidance counsellors to help students and graduates identify their career goals and develop action plans to achieve them. Career Consultants are linked to academic schools, providing regular drop-in services on site in each school, and sector specific careers guidance and employability skills sessions.

 CV and application form support and guidance – with the online resource CV Builder, students and graduates can enter their information into the template and create a CV. The CV and application form checking service ensures that applicants give the best account of themselves in their written application with advice provided by careers advisors and employability staff. CV and application form checking is operated on an appointment or drop-in basis at both Stratford and Docklands campuses.

 “Plan Your Career” website and online resources – providing a range of developmental tools for students and graduates to help them prepare for job application and recruitment processes including practice psychometric tests, Business English modules to improve professional English and careers mini sites providing sector specific careers information.

 Business and Professional Mentoring – the mentoring scheme matches students and recent graduates to an appropriate mentor from a professional environment. The scheme has also expanded to include mentors for start-up businesses and a staff and student mentoring programme. The mentoring scheme lasts up to six months and recruits three times a year: April, June and November.

 Volunteering opportunities: the Volunteering Scheme gives students and graduates the opportunity to do something worthwhile for the community whilst gaining valuable employment experience in a variety of organisations. Volunteering placements can be linked to the course of study, but is open to all.

 Work experience and placement opportunities – work experience is a crucial tool in gaining employment after graduating. Work experience, placements and internships are available for both accredited and non-accredited courses for opportunities in a range of sectors and for periods from two weeks up to one year.

 Online resources “Get That Job” and “Build That Business” – one-stop online resources providing information, advice and tips on recruitment or business start-up. Sections include writing effective covering letters, completing application forms and succeeding at interviews. The online resource provides a great back up to information delivered during one-to-one meetings and workshops.

Get a Mentor! Mentors from Established Companies Peer to Peer Mentoring to help undergraduates

 Employer engagement activities and presentations – Sessions are organised to enable current students to hear from UEL Alumni and other external colleagues on their roles, the entry requirements into their sector and real information about their day to day activities. These presentations take place in a variety of formats, at various internal and external venues and during the day and evening. Highly inspirational and motivational, these events enable students and graduates to benefit from the experiences of previous UEL graduates and other colleagues across a range of sectors.

 Annual careers fair and employability events – large scale events such as National Careers Week ( March 2 nd -6 th ) with representatives from a range of companies and recruitment agencies, these events are aimed at sharply engaging students with their future career goals through meeting employers who are offering information about current job opportunities on site during the event.

 Postgraduate Support – postgraduate students often with very specific needs are catered to through the provision of bespoke packages of support including careers guidance, job search and skills development sessions.

 International Students: CaSE address the needs of international students through the delivery of activities specific to their context. This includes working in partnership with the International Office on the Science Without Borders programme, supporting students in their preparation for a compulsory work placement, and delivery of sessions around finding work experience.

The Careers and Student Employability Team have opening hours from Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm, however a range of events also take place in the evenings. Members of the team will be available in the Student Centre at both Docklands and Stratford campuses. The team also have offices and drop-in services at the Docklands and Stratford campuses. They can be found in the Atrium, in the East Building in room RBG:04. At the Stratford campus they can be found on the ground floor of the R building.
