Accessing GIL GIL can be searched either on or off- campus without a password. At a library workstation, click on the icon for GIL. Outside the library, point your Web browser to:

GIL also includes the catalog for class reserve readings
Searching for A book by title? Books written by an author? The location of a journal? Then try:
the “Title/Author/Subject” search
At the “Title/Author/Subject” screen, select the type of search
To find the book An Education in Georgia
Leave off initial articles such as an, a, the, la, el, der education in georgia
Click on the “Search” button education in georgia
Results: all books owned by UGA whose titles start with those words
Click on the title for more information.

Each record has links to other books by the author
plus links to other books on these subjects
and a link by call number to “virtually browse” the shelves = NOT CHECKED OUT
If the book is charged out, you may place a recall request.
It will ask for your barcode number and last name Dawg
The password for using GALILEO off- campus is also under “Request.”
Print or save either one book, the entire list, or marked items.

At the bottom of each screen are several different options for printing and saving.
“Save to disk” formats results for either printing or saving.

Finding a book by author king, stephen
Results: all the Stephen Kings.
Click on the one with 43 books.
…and bring up a list of books by him.
Back at the author list: “See also”
Clicking on that brings up books that Stephen King wrote under a pseudonym.
Finding the location of a periodical (journal, magazine, or newspaper) journal of american history
The Journal of American History This shows the location of the paper issues There’s also an electronic version
Clicking on “also available online” brings up the full-text of the journal.

Try “Precision Search”
With Precision Search, build a search step-by-step.
To find books on the history of silent films: silent films
The default is “any of these” words silent films
To find “silent films” as a phrase silent films
Select the type of search. Keyword Anywhere is the broadest possible search. silent films
Precision Search can search by:
Add in the second part of the search silent films history
Leave as “any of these” and “Keyword Anywhere” silent films history
Click on Search silent films history
