MILITARY AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS Part 6 DATA LISTS

Military Aircraft Systems Missile Weapon Data AMRAAM AIM-120 Medium-Range, Radar Guided, Air-to-Air Missile, with a speed of Mach 4 and a range of 20nm+ ASRAAM AIM-132 Short-Range, Infrared guided, Fire-and-Forget, Air-to-Air Missile, with a speed of Mach 3+ and a range of 20nm+

Military Aircraft Systems Missile Weapon Data ALARM Air-Launched, Anti-Radiation Missile, homes on enemy radar energy and can loiter if the radar is switched off. Can also be pre-programmed to box-search and attack the highest priority threat. Brimstone Fully autonomous, Fire-and-Forget, Laser- and Radar-Guided, Anti-Armour Missile, supersonic speed with a range of 10nm+

Military Aircraft Systems Missile Weapon Data CRV-7 Rocket General Purpose Unguided Rocket, used against armoured targets with a range of 3nm. Harpoon Long-Range, Fully Autonomous, All-Weather, Over-the-Horizon, Sea-Skimming, Anti-Ship Missile, with a speed of 537mph and a range of 70nm+

Military Aircraft Systems Missile Weapon Data Maverick Anti-Armour, Fire-and-Forget Missile, for Close Air Support & Defence Suppression against armour, ships, transport and fuel storage facilities, with a speed of Mach 0.8 and a range of 3nm. Meteor Beyond Visual-Range, Air-to-Air Missile, with a ramjet engine, carries impact and proximity fuses, and has a speed of Mach 4 and a range of 60nm.

Military Aircraft Systems Missile Weapon Data Sidewinder AIM-9L Short-Range, Fire-and-Forget, Air-to-Air Missile, with a speed of Mach 3+ and a range of 6nm+, it was replaced by ASRAAM. Skyflash Medium-Range, Air-to-Air Missile semi-active homing, a speed of Mach 4 and a range of 20nm+ it was replaced by AMRAAM.

Military Aircraft Systems Missile Weapon Data Stingray Air-Launched, Electrically-Powered, Lightweight, Homing Torpedo, used against ocean or coastal water submarines. Storm Shadow Long Range, Stand-off Missile, designed to attack hardened targets, it navigates at low-level using terrain matching & integrated GPS, with a speed of Mach 0.8 and a range of 150nm+

Military Aircraft Systems Guided Bomb Weapon Data Paveway II 500lb precision laser-guided bomb, homed onto its target by an airborne TIALD pod. Paveway III 1,00lb precision laser-guided bomb, designed to penetrate hardened targets. Paveway IV 500lb low-cost, all-weather, 24-hour, precision laser-guided bomb, with the latest GP Guidance, capable of destroying most general-purpose targets.

Military Aircraft Systems Unguided Bomb Weapon Data BL755 Cluster Bomb when released, breaks open in the airflow & releases 147 high-explosive bomblets. GSB’s 540lb and 1000lb general purpose bombs use unitary blast warheads and are dropped as unguided freefall bombs or fitted with a retarder unit, have three modes of detonation: above a target in airburst mode, impact detonation, or post-impact detonation after a pre-set delay.

Check of Understanding Which of the following is a capability of the ASRAAM? Radar-guidance Medium range Infra-red guidance Anti shipping

Check of Understanding What is the range of an AIM-120 AMRAAN missile? 2 nm 20 nm+ 50 nm+ 100 nm+

Check of Understanding CRV-7 Rockets are used at what range? Up to 2 nm Up to 3nm Up to 5 nm Up to 10nm

Check of Understanding The Maverick missile is: An anti-armour, fire and forget missile Steered to impact by the attacking aircraft An anti-ship, fire and forget missile Only effective against ships

Check of Understanding What type of weapon is the AMRAAM? Short-range air to air missile Medium-range air to air missile Beyond Visual-Range Air-to-Air Missile Anti Radar Missile

Check of Understanding Skyflash was a semi-active radar-guided missile. What does this mean? The missile is fire-and-forget The missile relies on the launch aircraft’s radar to find the target The missile does not need any assistance from the launch aircraft The missile uses both infra-red and radar guidance

Check of Understanding Which of the following weapons is powered by a ramjet engine for long range performance? Meteor Sidewinder Skyflash ASRAAM

Check of Understanding Which missile is designed to attack submarines? Alarm Harpoon Maverick Stingray

Check of Understanding Skyflash was replaced with which weapon? Sidewinder ASRAAM Meteor AMRAAM

Check of Understanding What type of weapon is the Sidewinder? Short-range air to air missile Anti-armour missile Medium-range air to air missile Laser-guided bomb

Check of Understanding What sort of speeds would you expect from an AIM-132 ASRAAM 500 mph Excess of Mach 1 Excess of Mach 2 Excess of Mach 3

Check of Understanding The Meteor missile carries: Impact and proximity fuses Impact fuses only Proximity fuses only No fuses and is denoted by the attacking aircraft

Check of Understanding STORM SHADOW is designed to attack what? Radars Ships Hardened Targets Submarines

Check of Understanding For attacking armoured targets, what weapons should be used? Maverick or Harpoon Storm Shadow or BL755 Cluster Bombs CRV-7 Rockets or Brimstone Harpoon or Sting Ray

Check of Understanding What is the range of an AIM-132 AMRAAN missile? 2 nm 8 nm+ 20 nm+ >50 nm

Check of Understanding Which of the following best describes how the Paveway II homes onto its target? It's a Fire-and-Forget missile Airborne TIALD pod Internal GPS Radar Guided by launch aircraft

Check of Understanding What happens when a BL755 Cluster Bomb is released from an aircraft? It breaks open in the airflow and releases 14 high explosive bomblets. It fall on the target and then fires off 14 high explosive bomblets. It breaks open in the airflow and releases 147 high explosive bomblets. It falls to the ground and then fires off 147 high explosive bomblets.

Check of Understanding General Purpose Bombs have three modes of detonation known as: Retarded, Immediate and Delayed Airburst, Ground burst, Proximity burst Pre-impact, Impact and Post-impact Airburst, Impact and Post-impact
