T HE D ISTRICT C OURT Hye yeon and Jonathan

The district court is considered an intermediate level of court sitting between the lower courts(local courts) and supreme courts. Establish in 1973 under the NSW district court act, the district court hears a wide range of regional matters.

R OLES OF THE DISTRICT COURT Hearing of serious criminal offences including: drug offences, manslaughter and serious sexual offences. Hearing of civil cases such as debt recovery or personal injury claims involving up to $750,000 in claims. Hearing of appeals from the Local or Childrens’s Court.

D ISTRICT COURT LAYOUT A Judge over hears the proceedings of the court. Judge addressed as “Your Honor” Solicitor has to have had more than 7 years of experience. Involves Judiciary system with 12 people present in criminal case and 4-6 people in civil case.
