London
London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and commercial centre. It is one of the largest cities in world and the largest city in Europe. Its population about 8 million. London is one of the oldest and most interesting cities in the world.
The Houses of Parliament It is a long grey building with towers. The large clock in one of the towers is known as “Big Ben”. You can hear the sound of “Big Ben” every hour in London. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall. The members of the British Parliament work in this building.
The White Tower It was a fortress, a palace , a prison and the King’s Zoo. Now it is a museum. You can see a lot of interesting things in the halls of this building .William the Conqueror built it in the 11th century. Twelve black ravens live in it .People believe that London will be rich while the ravens live there.
Trafalgar Square Trafalgar Square is the geographical centre of London. It was named in memory of Admiral Nelson’s victory in the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The tall Nelson’s Column stands in the middle of the square. The monument includes four bronze lions. There are two fountains in it
Westminster Abbey It is more than nine hundred years old. There are many monuments and statues there, many English kings and queens are buried there. It is famous for the Poets Corner. It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches in London. This church has two tall towers.
Buckingham Palace It is a wonderful building .The Queen Victoria Memorial is situated in front of it.It takes you ten minutes to get from this building to Trafalgar Square, which in the centre of London. The Queen of Great Britain lives there.
ST PAUL’S CATHEDRAL St. Paul’s Cathedral is one of the most famous buildings in the world, and it is also one of the greatest British churches. It was built in the 17th century by sir Christopher Wren.
Hyde Park Hyde Park is royal park since 1536. This park is the largest one. It is one of the most popular places of Londoners during the hot summer days. The park is famous for its Speaker`s Corner, where people go when they want to tell other people about their political opinions.
REGENT`S PARK Regent`s park is in the north-west of London. It is the home of the London Zoo. One can reach the Zoo by boat that goes along the Regent`s canal. In summer one can visit an open-air theatre and enjoy a play by Shakespeare.
St . James`s Park St . James`s Park is the oldest and the smallest of the royal parks. It is near Buckingham Palace. There is a lake in St. James’s Park which is famous for its water-birds. The pelicans were originally given to Charles II by a Russian ambassador. Hundreds of people come to this park to rest.
