WHAT IS THE ROTARY FOUNDATION? A not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world. It makes possible Foundation grant funded projects that bring sustainable improvement to communities in need.

MISSION The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty. ‘Doing good in the world.’

HOW DOES THE MONEY ‘WORK’ ? Money donated Invested for three years Interest earned used for administration of the Fund After 3 years, 50% returned to the District (DDF) and 50% goes into the World Fund Permanent Fund - gifts, wills, invested in perpetuity. Ensures long term viability. Interest used ( World Fund, Peace Program) PolioPlus Fund

POLIOPLUS Remains Rotary’s top priority as an NGO ,000 cases cases (159 endemic countries; + 240) India declared polio free this month cases so far - (36 Pakistan, 4 Afghanistan, 1 Nigeria), 1 in Iraq (1 st since 2000) See the Global Eradication Initiative website for up- to-date numbers Funded by PolioPlus Fund and DDF donations

ROTARY PEACE FELLOWSHIPS Enable people to study a 2 year graduate degree in international relations, peace, and conflict resolution at one of 6 Rotary Peace Centres, one of which is the University of Queensland 60 / year OR study a 6 month certificate in peace studies 50/year

GRANTS District Grants Global Grants Packaged Grants

DISTRICT GRANTS A block grant that enables clubs and districts to carry out activities in their own communities or elsewhere Managed by the District - DFGC; DFC; DG Need to be aligned with the Foundation’s mission Can fund projects, VTT’s, scholarships, cultural exchanges, etc Can use up to 50% of the DDF

GLOBAL GRANTS Designed for large-scale humanitarian projects that have high impact and produce sustainable, measurable results Must have a budget of at least $30,000 Half of that would come from the Global Grant portion of the DDF and the other half from the World Fund Must lie within one of the 6 areas of focus.

AREAS OF FOCUS Peace & conflict resolution Disease prevention & treatment Water & sanitation Economic & community development Maternal & child health Basic education & literacy

VOCATIONAL TRAINING TEAMS A group of professionals travel to another country to learn or teach about their field. Can be funded by either District or Global (or even Packaged) grants Can vary in size, and in length of time Very flexible - can include Rotarians

GLOBAL GRANT EXAMPLE Want to do something with literacy in XXXX Two travel there to research, consult locals, supplies, Rotary club or district $4,000 Details put together Team of workers (any number) go to Nepal to carry out project $20,000 Materials $5,000 Training of locals to sustain the project $2,000 Hold a workshop on water management $2,000 Research what to do next. $1,000
