Presentation transcript:

A meme is quite simply a concept, behavior, or idea that spreads, usually via the internet. Memes most commonly illustrate themselves in a visual such as a picture or a video, but it can also take the form of a link, hashtag, a simple word or phrase or even an entire website. They're funny, clever, and great for social sharing.

WHAT’S DELAYING MY DINNER? Frees took photos of his pets, added text, and turned them into greeting cards. The birth of LOLcats. This photo is from 1870’s!

KEEP CALM SLEEP IN AND Keep Calm and Carry On is a catchphrase that originally appeared on a World War II-era British public safety poster. After one of the original posters was recovered and placed in a British bookshop in 2000, the inspirational message was shared online, sparking a series of image macros centered around the phrasal template “Keep Calm and X.” KEEP CALM… FONT I USED HERE: CALIBRI 

FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS Too privileged to experience actual problems

LOLcats Cute pictures of cats with funny text captions Captions usually are in lolspeak and words are often misspelled and in poor English

GRUMPY CAT Captions would be making any situation pessimistic or negative. nickname given to an angry- looking snowshoe cat that rose to fame online after its pictures were posted to Reddit in late September The cat is also known as “Tard” which is short for Tardar (Tartar) Sauce.

Typically nerdy or geeky pick up lines that are silly puns.

You will create memes by captioning the meme images from this power point. You must pick 8. Images will be found in my OUTBOX. You can take them into Pic Monkey, Paint.net or Photoshop to add your text. NOTE: Outline text option is not available on picmonkey. I can do a quick demo in photoshop to get this effect.

CRITERIA -You must follow the rules of the memes. No random phrases. -Memes MUST be school appropriate! You can be funny without being offensive. Keep it clean people! Rule of thumb, if you have to ask if it is appropriate…it probably isn’t -You must explain your use of humor or parody and how it relates to culture. Also explain how your memes would appeal to a large audience. Save each meme you create. Insert them into a word document. Under each meme, type your explanation of your creation. Each creation include the explanation of the Why. It is important to know the meaning behind your creation. Analyze it!

Pick three of the memes from this powerpoint and evolve them into a new meme (snowclone them) Example: Use the same caption but with a different picture like the Fry example or the X all the Y meme CRITERIA -You must follow the rules of the memes.

Using the rules and tips that we have discussed, create 3 original memes. You can use any photos from the internet to create your meme. You can also look up ideas for your meme but don’t just copy what someone else did. Explain why you chose the image(s) and the text to support them Examples can be: Demotivational posters, LOLcats, Dog shaming, advice animals, take a movie or famous quote and mix it with pop culture(Gandalf flappy bird)
