Do Now: HW on the corner of your desk. (5 problems, #28-30 and 43-44) HW: Test – Monday – study! Bring your Metric Patrol with you to class on test day – we are writing letters to the companies after the test! Food Drive – by Nov. 13 – try to bring in cans of pie filling as some of your items, and try to bring in HEALTHY options! (Canned veggies, Cereal, Granola bars, etc) If you need to do the alternate assignment for +8 extra credit, you must let me know by Nov. 6!

Food Drive – by Nov. 13 Try to bring in cans of pie filling as some of your items (not all), and bring in HEALTHY options that are good for Thanksgiving! Unable to participate in food drive? Let me know by NOVEMBER 6 so I can give you the alternate assignment!

Schedule Today: o Quiz Returned, Math Practice Thursday: o 1B: assembly – if you need help for the test, ask today! o 2B & 3B: entire block to prep for test – ask questions, do extra practice worksheets, study, etc. o Monday: Test o Wednesday: Start Ch 4, Newton’s 1 st Law

HW REVIEW Answers ONLY are going up If you did not get the answer, you MUST redo the problem and discover where your error is If you are an EXPERT in the HW, you have the option of helping others become experts, or obtaining work from the Supplemental Materials folder 10 MINUTES – 2 MINUTES PER PROBLEM

The first 3 problems are pretty basic, since the objects accelerate from rest… km/ h. s m/s m/s The next 2 problems require more thought, since the objects DO NOT accelerate from rest… m/s. s, OR 2.5 m/s 2 44.Its final speed is 38 m/s You did not have to do part 2 (distance it traveled)…but if you want a challenge, try solving part 2 using this formula, and check in w/me when you think you got it!

Now, onto the math… #25-28 in your POGIL Complete at your desks based on what we practiced TODAY and LAST CLASS. 4 problems; 15 minutes! Answers ONLY (no work) will be posted every 3 minutes – you responsibility to check, make corrections, ask questions, etc.

25. Mrs. Correia is driving her Mazda 3 in a straight line at 30 m/s (way above speed limit!) All of the sudden, a puppy runs out into the middle of the street and stops in front of her. Mrs. Correia slams on the brakes and comes to a stop in 3.0 s, stopping just before the puppy. What was the acceleration of Mrs. Correia’s car? 26. Mrs. Correia decided to stand on a skateboard and let someone push her to see how fast she could go. She starts at rest, and after 5 seconds reaches a velocity of 10 m/hour to the east. What is her acceleration? (Her path of motion is a straight line) 27. A super fast train starts from rest and travels for 10s with an acceleration of 10 m/s 2. What is the train’s FINAL velocity? 28. You see a car driving. You do not know its initial velocity, but you know that it accelerates at a rate of 2 m/s 2 for 1 minute, and reached a velocity of 140 meters per second in that time. What was the car’s initial velocity?

#25. a = -10 m/s 2 or -10m/s. s in a straight line (**Slowing down  negative acceleration!**) #26. a = 2 mi/h. s east (Speeding up  + acceleration!) #27. Final velocity = 100 m/s in a straight line #28. Initial velocity = 20 m/s in a straight line **CAREFUL! Your units MUST MATCH on both sides of the equation! USE DA!** Is the final velocity even reasonable? NO WAY! The final velocity is 140 m/s which is about 313 miles per hour!
