A Note From Ms. Lopez As September comes to an end, I can’t help but be so excited for the rest of autumn! The kids are doing amazing things, whether it be helping a friend in need, improving their illustrations, or writing a new letter! I am happy to announce that we have a Scholastic account! Please completely the monthly homework calendar and reading log. POETRY JOURNALS: Please make sure your child practices poems throughout the week. They need to bring their journals to school every FRIDAY. SNACK & WATER: It is important that every child bring a morning snack and water bottle everyday. PLEASE PACK SEPARATELY IN BACKPACKS. This gives them the energy boost they need to learn! TAKE A PEEK AT OUR WEEK: Don’t forget to check out our class blog. I will be adding fun pictures and tidbits from our school days. Objectives: What Students are Learning this Week Language: Letters and Sounds (L-O) We read, sing, dance, draw, and write the letters to master their sounds in words. We are also practicing “chunky monkey” and breaking words into beginning, middle, and ending sounds. Writing: Letter Formation We practice our handwriting with whiteboards and the letter school app as well as in various writing activities. Writer’s Workshop: The class is doing another mini-mentor text and writing their own version of Pete the Cat. It’s so fun to write and then sing the song! Reading: Cause and Effect (Pete The Cat) and “eagle eye” (look at the picture to make sense of the words) Sight Word: and This week’s sight word book is the “Class AND Book” and “You and I” Reading A-Z book that corresponds to our recent sight word or popcorn word. This is a great reading resource for you to keep to help your child practice reading fluency, concepts of print, and build reading confidence. Before you know it you will have a collection of Reading A-Z books to support your little learner at home! Poem: Hat Math: Amounts (Equal/As Many As, More, Less) Science: Ready, Set, Science! (Making and recording observations, science tools, the 5 senses) This week the students rotated to fun sensory stations and drew pictures of what they observed for each sense. Check out the pictures on the blog! Social Studies: Citizenship Coming up next week... Students will already be joining me in guided reading and literacy groups! They have done AMAZING working in small group learning centers each morning. I am so proud of them! And we will continue with our math unit focusing on amounts. Field Trip Update Our first field trip will be at Bates Nut Farm to explore the life cycle of a pumpkin. Friday, October 17 th. We will need 6 chaperones.
