Guinness World Records, known until 2000 as The Guinness Book of Records (and in previous U.S. editions as The Guinness Book of World Records), is a reference book published annually, containing a collection of world records, both human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. Englishman, Peter Dowdeswell, is among the most successful competitive eaters in recorded history of the sport. During the period when The Guinness Book of World Records kept data, Dowdeswell held more speed records than any other person, including records for eating pancakes.

(diameter) 6 inches How thick were they? 3/8 of an inch Did he put butter or syrup on the pancakes? Yes. With a partner, come up with a question to ask the class about this data. Make sure you have an answer to your question.

About how high would the stack of 62 pancakes be? 3/8 x 62 = At what rate did he consume the pancakes? 62 pancakes __pancakes 7 minutes1 minute =

Teacher’s notes: For more information see page 61 of Accessible Mathematics. Questions for pre AP classes… Volume of stack of pancakes How big would a single pancake 3/8 inch thick have to be if it has the same volume?
