Lab Title: Identifying Igneous Rocks Objective: To classify Igneous Rocks using observable characteristics including texture and composition. Vocabulary: Felsic, Mafic, Intrusive, Extrusive Lava, Magma

Materials: Magnifying Lens Igneous Rocks (Granite, Gabbro, Rhyolite, Basalt, Pumice, Scoria, Obsidian, Vesicular Basalt)

Procedure: Observe each rock and group according to texture (crystal size/noncrystalline) Further separate rocks into sub groups using their observed composition. Look for the minerals within the rock. Create a chart that correctly identifies each numbered rock with their name and correct designation ex. #--- Granite = Felsic/Intrusive Complete Lab Questions Write a conclusion that states how the texture of an igneous rock can indicate the environment of formation.
