Lesson 34 Compound-Complex Sentences Compound-Complex = 2 ½ ideas Example: Back in the 70’s, it was legal to spank students, and I got spanked twice! Today we will learn how to write the grand-daddy of all sentences, the compound-complex. It is the best kind of sentence you can write, and will score major points in paragraphs and essays---BIG TIME. ½ idea 1 idea

Compound-Complex Sentences Contains 2 ½ ideas! Two complete ideas, plus one fragment. For example: When I finish the laundry, I’ll go to the market, but I’ll be back soon. When Caesar ruled Athens, it was a great city- state, but women had no part in it.

Compound-Complexes LeBron Legless, who got cut from the team, was not a fast runner, but he later signed with the El Paso Poodles. Robert E. Lee, who commanded the Confederate army, was a West Point graduate, and he also served in the Mexican War. These are the most advanced sentences, and they are worth the most points.

Now try compound-complexes Write 5 compound – complex sentences about your neighbors. Remember to include 2 independent clauses + 1 dependent clause. Example: My neighbor Leo always lets his dogs in our yard, and he never picks up after them, which is rude
