So, you want to work in IT? Are the qualifications you’re studying for enough to secure a job in IT? There will be many skills and attributes that an employer in the IT industry will expect from their employees, beyond their qualifications.

What does an employer in the IT industry expect? Any employer will expect you to have certain personal skills and qualities that will enable you to do your job… Good time management Good communication skills (written and verbal) Team worker, but able to work independently

© Anything else? An IT employer also wants an employee who is aware of: Health and safety in an IT working environment Good working practices in IT Legislation for the workplace when using Visual Display Units Legislation relating to data protection © Legislation relating to copyright

Communication skills are key You also need to be able to: Having good communication skills isn’t just about being able to talk! Pick up cues in verbal conversations Proof read your documents before sending them Make good use of written communication Use good questioning techniques
