What is a Growth Hub?  Target all businesses with an ambition to grow  Facilitate a conversation with local businesses, raising awareness and uptake of public and private sector support at both the local and national levels  Provide a light-touch diagnostic and triage function that directs businesses to the most appropriate support  Ensure that any online portal: o Aligns with the national portal on gov.uk and links to national campaigns, such as the 'GREAT' SME campaign o Provides fast access to local and national support schemes o Makes use of existing national assets, including web content, the Business link helpline, mentoring resources etc. o Complements and enhances national provision  Provide effective, support to local businesses

What do they do? Business Support GrantsBespoke SupportCoaching, training, events Capital Revenue SME Innovation Start Up Grants High growth innovation programme Includes schemes with a substantial face-to-face element and/or a high level of contact with businesses. In addition, these are typically schemes where the level of spend per business is high (relative to business size), implying the potential impact on participating businesses is large. Includes schemes that involve contact with large numbers of businesses at a low level, with a low level of spend per business.

 Growth Hubs to serve as a single point of reference for SMEs looking for support to grow  Support SMEs so that they are able to create jobs, increase productivity and competitiveness, innovation, investment and sustainability  Provide local businesses with improved access to a national network of relevant, cost effective business support, resources, advisers, investors, further and higher education institutions  Establish a peer to peer Growth Hub network enabling the sharing of good practice and co-ordinated approaches to hub development and delivery W2GH Programme - Objectives Example image

W2GH Evaluation  Evaluation and Metrics Framework developed with BIS and the Cabinet Office  Logic Model o To help W2GH develop their own local evaluations; this is coupled with support from Lancaster University as required  Formative o Designed to improve the performance of the Growth Hubs o Consideration of the challenges faced by the hubs o Identification of what works well, difficulties and lessons learned o Sharing best practice across the Growth Hub network  Summative o Examine and estimate the overall impact of the programme o Underpinned by key research activities: Mapping, Counting Outputs, Measuring Outcomes, Building Counterfactual evidence through analysis

W2GH Core Metrics  Identifying the business: o Business name, address and Companies House Reference o Size, age and sector  Describing the support: o Type of support provided o Purpose of the funding o Number of businesses supported o Key dates  Performance indicators: o Analytical data o Information on unsuccessful applicants o Additionality questions

 Over 25,000 SMEs have engaged with the Growth Hubs  Over 1,900 SMEs have received bespoke business support or grants  Over 400 contracts with SMEs to the value of £16.5m o £11.3 private sector match o £5.2m RGF  Business support has led to the commitment (to date) from SMEs of the creation of over 1,800 new jobs.  325 New Jobs created overall (to September) 4 during Jan - Mar 57 during Apr - Jun 264 during Jul - Sep W2GH Achievements
