Daily Schedule TimeSubjectHomework 90 minutesMathMonday – Thursday (15 Minutes) 45 minutesContentStudying and Projects as Assigned 20 minutes Interactive/Shared Reading Nightly Reading (15 Minutes) 60 minutesGuided ReadingMay include book discussion text 45 minutes Writing/Word Work Occasionally 30 minutesI/EN/A *Homework will be discussed in more detail*

Homework Your child will have homework several nights a week. Homework and upcoming events are listed on the Team Integrity webpage. Grades can be accessed through HAC. Homework is not graded, but students will receive a missed assignment notice. This is to keep parents informed. In addition to regular reading, your child will bring home assignments that reinforce concepts from various content areas. Your child will write assignments in the assignment book, and it will need to be checked by a parent. Homework is important because it reinforces the concepts taught, and establishes responsibility and organizational skills for later grades. Please develop a homework routine that will be consistent and comfortable for both you and your child.

Math Flex grouping/workshop style to present curriculum Place value Addition/Subtraction with and without regrouping Multiplication with two/three digit multipliers Division with one digit divisors Problem Solving Skills Measurement and Time Geometry Decimals Introduction of fraction concepts This year, our team will continue with the math program titled My Math..

Reading Daily lesson will be broken into 3 parts:  Interactive Read Aloud (1 picture book/ 1 chapter book)  Shared Reading  Guided Reading Literacy Stations Independent Reading Written Reading Responses- journal to extend learning Each month we will focus on different genres and reading strategies that will continue to work together. The subject matter becomes more complicated. The emphasis will be on comprehension and application. Focus changes from learning to read to reading to learn.

Writing We will be writing daily in class: independent/shared Directly linked with Reading Different forms of writing are emphasized. (Lucy Calkins)  Narrative~ Realistic Fiction  Informational (Expository)  Text Dependent Analysis  Persuasive. Process approach is emphasized – prewriting, drafting, conferencing, editing, and publishing. Age appropriate writing skills are taught and utilized. Required writing throughout content areas.

Word Work “Working With Words” Group of words which incorporate vocabulary and are relevant to various areas of study. Grammar skills weekly~ common core This information can then be used not only in word study, but also in reading and writing. You will need to spend 5-10 minutes with your child each night. Weekly assessments will include grammar focus, word of the day application, and correct spelling of “no excuse” words.

Science We will apply the scientific method through numerous experiments and projects. Students will participate in the science fair. (Tools for preparation for the Science PSSA in the spring.) Life SciencePhysical ScienceEarth Science *Plant Structures *Animal Structures *Energy in Ecosystems *Adaptations *Matter *Force and Motion *Electricity and Magnetism *Light and Sound *Measuring Weather *Composition of the Earth *Oceans *Solar System

Social Studies Map skills, themes of geography Curriculum concentrates on 5 regions of the United States-industries/products, people, historical significance, landforms, climate, etc Students will know all 50 states, abbreviations, and capital cities by about April of this year. Nonfiction reading and writing is incorporated within the content.

Specials Library/Technology Health/Guidance Art PE- every other day Music *chorus/band/orchestra/lessons: held on separate schedules*

Sanity savers Organization – Ask your child to make a stop sign for the inside of the front door with a list for him/her to check: Lunch? Instrument? Homework? Assignment book? Special needs for special classes? Discuss where your child should go if there is an emergency school closing and you can’t be reached. Make sure your child memorizes your work phone number as well as your home number.

Sanity savers Insist that your child lay out tomorrow’s school clothes and load his/her backpack the night before. Establish “school night” television rules and stick to them. Hang a sturdy bag labeled “Library Books” to keep them separated from other books in the house. When it’s library day, your child knows exactly where they are. Cut down on forgotten and lost homework by telling your child that his/her assignment is not finished until it’s in your backpack.

Chrome books 4 th graders will have a 2 to 1 ratio of chrome books to students All classrooms and encore teachers will incorporate chrome books 6FvNrkG2IiURwDnLphKeSd2JDPWcnbD8QTgHM/ edit#slide=id.p 6FvNrkG2IiURwDnLphKeSd2JDPWcnbD8QTgHM/ edit#slide=id.p
