Mrs. Aman’s Wildcats! Welcome to our Classroom! Armor Elementary School Area 11

Wildcats… Get In The Game! Area 11’s Wilcats have 5 simple, yet very important, rules and expectations: (1.) Treat everyone with kindness and respect. (2.) Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. (3.) Follow directions as soon as they are given. (4.) Raise your hand when you have something to say. (5.) Be a friend to EVERYONE!

Our Daily Routine Research shows that children thrive on routine. Here are some of the activities that take place in our classroom every day…

Please Put Your Things Away! The Wildcats hang their belongings in our coatroom as soon as they enter the room.

Please check folders and sign your Wildcat’s agenda EVERY NIGHT! Agendas and Homework Please check folders and sign your Wildcat’s agenda EVERY NIGHT! Please put any notes for the office or the nurse in your Wildcat’s folder!

We Pledge Allegiance… Every day the morning announcements include The Pledge of Allegiance and a patriotic song.

Morning Meeting During our Morning Meeting we review calendar skills such as the date, and our daily schedule. We also count to the 100th day of school. The Wildcats are also given an opportunity to share exciting news and information.

Language Arts / Reading Series Armor Elementary School uses the Scott-Foresman reading series. In second grade, a different selection is read every week. Our weekly skills include spelling, vocabulary, writing, grammar, phonics, and comprehension strategies.

Readers Workshop: Weekly Selections

Readers Workshop: Guided Reading Each Wildcat is a member of a small reading group, facilitated by an adult. Students work on a variety of reading strategies during reading groups. To keep the noise level reasonable for good reading practice, other Wildcats work on independent skills while reading groups are going on in the classroom.

Our weekly spelling activities include: Every Monday a new list of spelling words is introduced and glued into each Wildcat’s Spelling notebook. Spelling tests are administered on Friday mornings. Our weekly spelling activities include: Monday: 3X each Tuesday: ABC order Wednesday: 6 Sentences Thursday: Study Friday: Test

Writers Workshop Writers Workshop is held three times per week, on average. This year the Wildcats will be writing descriptive and persuasive pieces, friendly letters, and a variety of other genres. Published pieces are almost always displayed in the hallway! Our first piece: “If I were an astronaut…”

Mathematics Level Two students focus on accuracy and memorization of addition and subtraction facts from 0-20. We also focus on number sense, basic geometry skills, measurement, time, money, fractions, and problem solving.

The Level 2 Science themes include: -Life cycles (mealworms, “mystery animal”, and plants) -Changes -Balancing and Weighing

The Level 2 Social Studies themes include: Holiday traditions -Patriotic symbols -Maps

Specials Phys. Ed. : Mondays and Wednesdays… Please wear sneakers! Music: Tuesdays and Fridays Art: Fridays L.M.C. – Thursdays Don’t forget your books!

Snack Please pack a nutritious snack for your Wildcat everyday, even if he/she is purchasing a lunch from the café.

Lunch Lunch is available for $1.50 in the cafeteria. A monthly lunch menu can be found in Hamburg Central’s newsletter, the Focus.

Birthday Celebrations We’ll celebrate Area 11 birthdays after lunch at 12:40pm. Parents are invited to join us for a 10 minute celebration. Common birthday treats include cupcakes, brownies, cookies, ice cream treats and doughnut holes. If your child has a summer birthday, we’ll celebrate sometime in June.

Classroom Parties Although I will be asking for classroom party volunteers, every parent will be called and asked to send in supplies for classroom parties. We will have a Halloween party, a pot-luck luncheon in November, a Christmas party, and a Valentine’s Day party.

Outdoor Recess We will go outside throughout the school year. Please be sure to dress your child according to the weather forecast. Boots are a MUST in the winter months!

Thanks for Visiting with the Wildcats! We’re looking forward to a great year!!
