Chesapeake Science & Security Corridor BRAC “SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION: A TEAM EFFORT” November, 2007

What is BRAC? "BRAC" is an acronym for base realignment and closure. It is the process DoD has previously used to reorganize its installation infrastructure to more efficiently and effectively support its forces, increase operational readiness, and facilitate new ways of doing business. DoD anticipates that BRAC 2005 will build upon processes used in previous BRAC efforts. A regional approach for community outreach to define the process, assess the impact, and collaborate planning and implementation related to transportation, workforce development, land use/infrastructure, and education.

BRAC 2005 & APG 11 missions from 8 states incoming Ordnance School & Training Center & Army Environmental Command outgoing 8,200 jobs on post (civilian DoD and embedded contractors) 7,500-10,000 indirect jobs (contractor tail, etc. off-post) 28,000 direct, indirect & induced jobs to region

Chesapeake Science & Security Corridor (CSSC) initiative “Marketing and Regional Planning Effort” Support Governor’s 2007 Sub Cabinet “Team Maryland and MD Military Council gets teeth” Regional & State Collaboration Harford, Cecil, Baltimore, Baltimore City, New Castle, York, Lancaster, & Chester, Baltimore Metropolitan Council, Greater Baltimore Committee, Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, and Wilmington Area Planning Council along with the State of Maryland and Army Alliance working together on a multi-level governmental effort.

CSSC Implementation Focus Transportation and Infrastructure for transit throughout the Route 40 corridor including rail extension, multi-modal transportation center, MARC stations, bus options and roadway/intersection improvements Land Use analyses, Ordinance development Education: STEM curriculum development/ HS graduation requirements and program comparisons Workforce analysis and development Water and Sewer Capacity

Internal moves are on schedule. Phase II includes the 24 gate (22 gate is an option) 2012 APG Transformation underway
