Smart Materials Smart textiles are materials and structures that sense and react to environmental conditions or stimuli, such as those from mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrical, magnetic or other sources. Smart textiles are no longer a science- fiction fantasy. For example, there are in the market self-cleaning carpets, memory- shaped and environment-responsive textiles, and anti-insomniac micro-fibers.

What do they do? Passive smart materials, which can only sense the environmental condition or stimuli, Passive smart materials, which can only sense the environmental condition or stimuli, Active smart materials, which sense and react to the condition or stimuli, Active smart materials, which sense and react to the condition or stimuli, Very smart materials, which can sense, react and adapt themselves accordingly, and Very smart materials, which can sense, react and adapt themselves accordingly, and Intelligent materials, which are those capable of responding or activated to perform a function in a manual or pre- programmed manner Intelligent materials, which are those capable of responding or activated to perform a function in a manual or pre- programmed manner

This is an ongoing research project in the field of Smart Textiles. In the glove all the technique for communication is integrated in the textile product. The glove is intended to be used under extreme climate conditions, for example where the temperature is very low and you are exposed to snow and wind. You can use your mobile phone without taking off your glove and there will be more different possibilities for communication in this and other coming products.

Medical Smart Materials The medical profession is now using many smart materials for a variety of medical conditions. The latest is a dressing that has incorporated sensors for monitoring patients. The "intelligent textiles" contain embedded sensors designed to monitor body fluids such as blood and sweat. The aim is to use the clothes to check on groups such as recovering hospital patients, people with chronic illnesses and injured athletes. A prototype multi-sensor test patch is already near completion.
