Beyond Loans Other sources for student finance

Main Websites Remember the key websites are: for the application and the finance calculator which will allow you to work out what you are entitled to in terms of loans, grants and bursaries. Need to apply by 31st May, but best to apply before then. for bursaries for students applying to NHS courses - nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, radiography, speech therapy, etc. When you complete your finance application, you should be advised of any bursaries you are entitled to from your chosen university through the National Scholarship Programme. You my also be offered bursaries as a result of information your UCAS application. You may be entitled to a scholarship if you have a strong academic record or particular talent in music, sport, or meet other criteria. Use this link to identify those scholarships you may be entitled to at your university: search.org.uk/ search.org.uk/ Also consider: support/bursary-and-scholarship-grids/ grids for a quick scan of different scholarships/bursaries at different universities – however, not all bursaries and scholarships are listedhttp:// support/bursary-and-scholarship-grids/

Websites offering advice Most universities have comprehensive advice on financial support available from sources within and outside of education and how to access them. However, there are also some really useful websites out there…try… Save the Student on grants-bursaries-scholarships.htmlhttp:// grants-bursaries-scholarships.html Bright Knowledge on bank/money/student-financehttp:// bank/money/student-finance Money Saving Expert at loans-tuition-fees-changeshttp:// loans-tuition-fees-changes Which? University at to-know-about-student-financehttp://university.which.co.uk/advice/parents-what-you-need- to-know-about-student-finance

Scholarships and Bursaries - easy to search, has lots of non-uni scholarships too finance/ /University-scholarships-10-unusual-student- bursaries.html - for something a little different finance/ /University-scholarships-10-unusual-student- bursaries.html

Other Bursaries and Grants There are several sites offering search tools to help you find sources of financial support from charities, educational trusts and private companies. Try where you enter a few details about yourself and the site returns a number of possible sources for grants other than universities. For other charities and trusts, try scholarship-sources.html look specifically at the charities and organisations towards the bottom of the page. scholarship-sources.html

Sponsors hip Sponsorship is where you enter into an agreement with a company or organisation that they will provide funding or other support towards your studies throughout the duration of your course. Unlike one-off scholarships, bursaries and grants, the organisation sponsoring the student expects something in return for their investment! Usually this is a commitment to work for the organisation for a set number of weeks each year and to enter into employment with that organisation at the end of your studies. You may already be too late for sponsorship through the military or several other major sponsors for degrees starting this summer. However there are still sponsorship deals to be found….particularly for vocational courses in Engineering, Sciences, Computer Sciences, Accounting, etc. Try the following sites for general searches for sponsorship: Bright Knowledge on sponsored-to-studyhttp:// sponsored-to-study Everything You Wanted to Know on sponsorship.htmlhttp:// sponsorship.html YOUR BEST BET IS TO GO DIRECTLY TO COMPANIES KNOWN FOR SPONSORSHIP OR CHECK OUT CONNECTIONS THROUGH YOUR UNIVERSITIES WEBSITE. Also consider universities’ own websites for their established sponsorship schemes, for example:
