The Economics of India BY: Spencer and Brandon

Overview About half of India’s work force comes from agriculture. Also there are many farms. India sought loans amounting to $3 billion from the World Bank. India has one of the largest economies in the world! Because of population growth, average incomes are the lowest in the world. Many millions of the country’s people live in poverty. Nearly a third of all families have no land at all, and both adults and children must sell their labor to the large land holders. A very high proportion of the land- more than half overall-is used for farming.

GDP & GDP Per Capita The GDP of India is $3.548 trillion. The GDP Per Capita of India is $3,100

Birth & Death Rate The birth rate of India is 21.72/ 1,000 population. The death rate of India is 7.6 deaths/1,000 population.

Literacy Rate The literacy rate of India is 61 percent.

Life expectancy The average life expectancy of India is 66 years old

Inflation Rate The inflation rate of India is 9.8 percent.

Infant Mortality Rate The infant mortality rate of India is 53 per 1,000 births.

Imports & Exports The major imports of India are crude oil, machinery, gems, fertilizer, and chemicals. The major exports of India are petroleum products, textile goods, gems and jewelry, engineering goods, chemicals, and leather manufactures.
