DFI Listening and Changing Project Louise McCann (Support Officer and National Coordinator for the Listening and Changing Project)

Where did Listening and Changing come from? NAI/DFI Genio funded project in 2011 It involved doing Person Centred Consultation with 6 DFI Member Organisations – SBHI, Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Headway, WLCIL, Gilbert Centre, Cork CIL The pilot also included the development of 3 training modules

DFI Model of Person Centred Consultation Person Centered Consultation describes a process where an organisation does its planning with and for its members, and where members are at the centre of, and are the reason for, its existence An approach – informed by values – a practice Way of consulting First step in the strategic planning process Not the same as person centred planning

It involves… A Core Team that includes a Board member, key staff, representation from user, DFI facilitator

Users are involved at every stage of the process…. Must lead back to the strategic planning of the organisation Design Planning what to consult on Deciding who should be consulted Designing how people should be consulted Delivery In Implementing the consultation Evaluating the findings Making the Change

Relevant to all DFI members and disability organisations…

That might mean… Self Directed Supports and Services Member or user led services

Some examples now… Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland Alzheimer Society of Ireland Headway (Cork) More information on how to get involved, access training or download the resource pack from federation.ie or from your local support officerwww.disability- federation.ie
