♣ Saint Patrick's Day ♣ Saint Patrick's Day is the Irish national day. It is celebrated on March 17. In Ireland, it is a religious holiday that honors the man who brought Christianity to the country in the fifth century. For this national holiday a large parade is organized in Dublin and New York. But the parade of New York is still the biggest one. The city of Chicago celebrates it by coloring the river green. Green is the traditional Irish color. People wear green clothes. During the festivities, people drink a lot of Irish beer.

Symbols In Ireland, there are many sheep, some say it's a symbol. The Celtic harp is one too, used for example for traditional songs. The shamrock is a symbol of Ireland. It is a three leaf clover. It is often associated with Saint Patrick's Day. The Irish National Rugby Union team also has a clover on their T-shirts. But there are also leprechauns and beer. The leprechaun is a magical little creature. It puts pots of gold at the bottom of the rainbow.
